Our second night in Edinburgh we ventured out to Rodi, which was a quick walk from our hotel. After reviewing the menu online (thank you for having it available!), we convinced our 9-year old that he would be able to find something on the menu.
The setting is lovely, with brightly colored walls and lamps and the kitchen open to the dining area. We started with an order of falafel, which were crisp and delicious. Our son had never tried falafel before, and I'm glad this was his first encounter with it. The appetizer portion is five pieces, and our son devoured two of them.
For my main, I had the mixed skewer (chicken and lamb) and it was delicious. The marinade on the meat was warm, but not spicy, and both the lamb and the chicken were tender and perfectly cooked. The rice was tender and buttery, and the salad had a pleasing dressing. My husband's andana was flavorful and tender, and he said he definitely would order it again. Then there's our son, who as a bit skeptical of Turkish food, who ordered the chicken kebab and swapped the chips for rice. One bite of the chicken, and his eyes rolled to the back of his head - he was in love. He said it was one of the best things he ever tasted, and immediately asked for me to replicate it at home.
When I paid the bill, I asked Ali (our server and owner) how the meat on the kebabs is spiced/marinated, and Ali and his chef gave me a few pointers. They both were very pleased that our son's first encounter with Turkish food was in their restaurant and that the little guy enjoyed it.
Bottom line: Delicious food; welcoming staff; family-friendly; a gem...
Read moreWent there for dinner a week ago. The restaurant is not massive but their seating and decor are good, it also looked incredibly well taken care of and we all thought the ambience was great. Facilities are clean, although the hand drier wasn't working. The waiter was extemely friendly and very helpful and made us feel very welcome
The starters we ordered were tasty (the borek filled with mince, chicken wings and some salads)-they came to the table hot and the tzatzkiki style dip was lovely! The portions were also really good and quite appropriate for starters.
Unfortunately after this it seemed to go downhill: the mains we ordered included sea bass, lamb ribs and iskender. The sea bass was cooked well but lacked any flavour (even just salt and pepper) -the fish didnt taste as fresh as it could have been and was also a wee bit cold. The ribs were also cooked well but again lacked any flavour, as did the iskender (which was quite a small portion). Each meal came with a type of rice or bulgur wheat but they were cold and again, lacked seasoning. The salads they did come with were tasty however! Price-wise it was average, had the food been hot and well flavoured/ seasoned I would have thought it worth the money, but it really just didnt deliver on that front. Had they been busy I would have understood but it was just us (a table of three) and a couple in the restaurant... This was such a shame: everything had been cooked properly but just tasted bland (surprising for mediterranean cuisine) and a lot of it was cold, and this is the only reason I didn't give this place the...
Read moreSave your money.Do NOT eat here ! We were visiting Edinburgh and found Rodi restaurant right opposite to our Hotel. Me and my partner decided to order from here despite having many options available on Ubereats and etc. We ordered two portions of Karisik and a portion of bread(FYI, they only accept cash) which we thought would be nice given it has a nice variety of meat. Once i went to the collect my order a gentleman approached by the till and got my order. I quickly had a look in the bag and couldn’t see any cutlery so asked if i could get some. The gentleman who seemed civilised at the time quickly began to get rude and started talking to another man in his language. His tone abruptly became unwelcoming and disrespectful and he started saying we don’t have any cutlery. He then aggressively suggested i should leave a £20 deposit to take the cutlery from him. His tone of voice was getting too high and rude so i decided to leave. Once i got back I found that the salad box was broken and leaked in the bag, there was no tissues, no sauces( which i particularly requested twice over the phone at the time of order) again this was not provided. The bread for which i paid £2 was dipped in oil and was not edible at all. Once we saw the food the ribs and the lamb chop was extremely hard and dry and could not chewed. The only thing we ate from this order were two wings, rice and adana. I wasted £36 pounds on my meal and wasted time and energy too! Didn’t enjoy anything, it...
