A cool venue which I actually looked at last year as a potential wedding venue. I decided to go elsewhere but was gifted an experience - show and three course at Proud Cabaret - by family who had attended the viewing with me.
We were welcomed and seated by Silvia who served us all night. She was very friendly and attentive.
There was an intimate crowd with mixed groups and couples. Dolly Rocket was a great host for our Friday night and created a jubial atmosphere. However, Dolly frequently confused a Spanish couple for Italians. It's a small thing but perhaps she shouldn't ask or chat about ethnicity/nationality if she can't guarantee remembering the details.
The show was split into three parts with bingo and entertainers. Some entertainment, such as SkyFlow with the hula hoops, was absolutely brilliant. Other acts were still enjoyable but somewhat lame in comparison to her. The intervals felt as long as each entertainment segment - seemignly designed for people to pile themselves with drink. I expected our food courses to be brought out at the start of each entertainment segment, or with the following interval but it was much more random.
The food was ok. The pea veloute didn't taste of much. The chicken supreme was overcooked and served with frozen and boiled broccoli/cauliflower. I couldnt discern any Jaffa cake in the Jaffa cake cheesecake - but I always enjoy a digestive base. The vegan ice cream was good.
Drinks were reasonably priced... at first glance. We enjoyed two Aflie-Eight cocktails until glitter was sprinkled into them inadvertently by the entertainment. We weren't offered a replacement when we mentioned it, nor a removal/discount on our bill. I probably wouldn't have cared if I had drank as much as some other customers so I won't consider this as a negative.
The bill included a mandatory 15% service charge. The calculation for this charge included the value of gift voucher which I I think this is a cheeky practice. Additionally, there was a tray charge which was also mandatory as we were told there was table only service - seedy. Tray charges are hotels. We were also billed for 3 seats rather than 2 and had to ask for a revision. Silvia immediately obliged but I wonder if this is something purposeful, with Proud knowing that customers are quite intoxicated by that point in the evening.
Once paid up, my wife and I were marked on the hand by Silvia and allowed to proceed to the exit. We were checked by the bouncer who then opened the door. Again, this feels seedy and seems to verge on entrapment.
TLDR; I had an enjoyable evening - made such by a gregarious host, brilliant hula hoop act, bingo and friendly staff. Unfortunately I'm hesitant to go back or recommend to my network due to the lacklustre food, length of intervals, questionable terms and conditions and high cost for a few hours out. However, if money isn't much of an object for you then go for it! I'd go back if they increased ticket prices and relaxed their T&C's/service...
Read moreAbsolutely gutted to be writing this review after leaving such a gleaming review the year before. It pains me to say I would seriously consider before booking and paying in advance that you pay close attention to some recent reviews. We paid £428 for a burlesque evening with a four course meal and really did not expect what was delivered considering the premium cost. When we first arrived we overheard the doorman mention that it was more quiet than usual for a Friday night (probably because cause people are just not returning anymore) and he wasn’t wrong with just 25-30 attending. Due to the low numbers there was only one waitress serving drinks and food so ended up eating mostly cold food (which should have been hot). We ordered a chablis with the food but the waitress returned to inform us that they had ran out and she offered an alternative, the alternative was not the issue but the fact that the Chablis remained on the bill was. Unfortunately we did not realise until the following morning when we inspected the bill and then also noticed that the cheeky gits had also put a 15% service charge not only on the drinks that we purchased that evening but also the initial £428 cost of the tickets so the service charge amounted to £111. We made the best of the evening and had a laugh and a drink but truth be told the whole thing was nothing short of shoddy, we were not expecting moulin rouge but as it was described as primarily burlesque with humour and entertainment thrown in it was kind of expected that the evening would at least revolve around burlesque. The previous year we watched in amazement as the entertainers wowed us and the bear amused us. Sadly Dolly Rocket was a no show, she allegedly felt ill but looking at the reviews it’s a regular occurrence and this time round we had the bear as the main compare and singer, actually it was pretty much him all night and sadly he is no singer, a great entertainer and a lovely bloke but no singer and certainly not one that warrants £100 per ticket. Almost 2 months on we are still chasing the post of the Chablis which was easily rectified baring in mind they should have been able to check their stockists to confirm that they had indeed ran out. Lack of atmosphere, lack of interest from the entertainers and staff, diabolical food and zero atmosphere, reputation will carry you so far and from what I can see the reputation is well and truly tarnished, jeez someone change the management at this place or it will be out of business...
Read moreTerrible service, cold food, poor entertainment which was only 5 minute segments. Aggressive events manager. Ruined what was supposed to be a nice surprise for my hen do. We waited 1 hour for our first drink and another hour for our 2nd drink. We were there for 3½ hours, maybe a little more and only received 2 drinks. 3 course meal was booked in premium seating which WAS NOT premium. When the food started to come out the so called cabaret began and we had our backs to it so could not eat meal and watch at the same time. Not once has anyone received a reply from any complaint, it just appears to have been deleted. I believe that all drinks that people were ordering were going to other people's tables as we know for a fact that one of our ladies drinks was just dumped on another table because ppl sat next to us brought them over to our table! I spoke to the events manager who was very abrupt with me saying that she needed to get the drinks order out and would I like a drink, to which I said no, I am not willing to wait another hour for a drink, she said if it's a complaint then she would sort it out after the drinks were sent out (basically saying my need to talk to her wasn't important), I said no, you will listen to what I have to say and that is. We will not be paying for any drinks tonight and can you clarify that my daughter in laws card WILL NOT BE CHARGED FOR THIS RUBBISH SERVICE. She assured me that they can't charge the card and it's ok that we don't pay. I wouldn't recommend the Brighton venue, food was sat on a tray ready to be delivered to tables where people were walking past back and forth to the toilets and placed beneath and air conditioning until so when it arrived at tables by one member of staff with 1 plate in each hand, it was barely warm. We were still waiting for dessert 1 hour after our main and decided to leave rather than wait another second as the food wasn't nice anyway. The whole setup was poorly organised. Not enough staff to cover service and the staff that were there didn't seem to have a clue what they were doing. Never again! The worst service I have ever experienced in my entire life. Please don't waste your money on this venue! It needs to be closed down instead of taking people's money for a service that they clearly...
