If you are going to Boscombe Beach in Bournemouth and feel a bit hungry, take a short detour to Pizzeria via Roma and grab a table and don’t look back.
You’re still in Boscombe but are eating in one of the finest Italian Restaurants in the area. And if you’re coming from the beach, you don’t need a Vespa to get there - just a short walk.
We ate early on a Saturday afternoon, around 6pm, so because the restaurant was empty, we had the pick of the table. But once we were seated the place started to fill up.
I opted for a deep fried Calamari Fritti, served with salad garnish and tartar, while my wife had an Antipasto All’ Italiana - a selection of cured Italian meat, mozzarella and olives. My daughter had Pane All’ Aglio, three slices of tasty garlic bread.
When our starters arrived, they were so plentiful that our waiter Michel Hurtado laid them squarely in the middle of the table for all of us to share. Not only were they delicious but set us up for more to come.
There were some amazing cocktails on the drinks list like Orgasm, which raised a few eyebrows. It comprised of Bailey’s, Kalhua, Amaretto and cream.
However, being on my best behaviour, and not knowing if I would be offered a fake one, I asked our man from behind the bar Renato, for a fruity Bellini cocktail, which comprised of a Prosecco and Peach Purée.
My daughter had a sweet Mimosa, Prosecco with Fresh Orange Juice, while my wife had a refreshing Appletizer.
By now our bellies were so full that we needed to rest them before the next culinary onslaught. It also gave us the opportunity to soak up the lovely atmosphere, which included some pretty wild birthday singing from a nearby table.
My main was the Vesuvio pizza, a tasty light crust made up of tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, pepperoni and chilli. It was done to perfection - hot, but not requiring the fire brigade to cool me down.
My wife had a Colosseo, made up of tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, chicken, mixed peppers and olives. The pizza was so filling, she needed a doggy bag.
My daughter, meanwhile, decided on a Spaghetti Alla Bolognese, a traditional Italian Ragu, which lived up to her expectations.
By now we were so full that we were ready to get the bill. But our daughter, with little persuasion from the affable Renato, decided to push the boat out with a mouth-watering Profiteroles Al Cioccolato, you guessed it, a Choux pastry filled with cream and chocolate sauce.
We could have quite easily stayed at the restaurant until closing time, as the two waiters were so welcoming. And when the bill came, it was just short of £90, which was very reasonable.
I would strongly recommend everyone to come to this restaurant. I had to drive 101 miles to get there, would have gladly have done double the distance. Five stars all the way -...
Read moreMenu is reminiscent of a bad 80s restaurant, in desperate need of an update and they've removed dishes. Have eaten here before, won't be doing so ever again. Worst menu. Even worse staff! After deciding we didn't want to settle for anything off the menu we went to leave. Been left alone for a good 10 mins at this point - no drama we had the baby but would have been nice if we'd been asked if we want drinks. Building was empty - consider its a bank holiday Sunday I was initially shocked - after the service not so much. As we head out of the door, what I can only assume was the owner wondered over and asked what we wanted. We explained there was nothing to our fancy but thank you very much. Her response was to ask us if Italian was to much of a high standard for us and suggested we eat at the kebab shop next door or around the corner at mcdonald's. Honestly so unnecessary and rude! If you're not going to update the menu since before the 80s then you will be empty on a bank holiday. Terrible place. The best part of the rudeness is they charge a service charge for a party bigger than 1....i come from a family of 6, get us all our food at once and we'll happily pay our service charge. Parties of one require no service at all. Beyond a joke to charge a service fee. People only pay for good service, unless you're offering the best, don't do this. In summery go to the kebab shop next door, they are way nicer and friendlier and they'll never decide you're not good enough to eat there! This place...
Read moreWent here for take away on a Saturday night with my sister + aunt who sat on the chairs but one of the servers told them to step out of the restaurant whilst waiting for the order.
I spoke with the owner who happens to be on the till and who accepted my order -- I said to her I want a refund / cancel the order and told her what happened and I found it rude as we the customers paid the exact price for dine in or take away.
So we still waited patiently outside the restaurant when the owner suddenly approached us and was fuming mad and didn't even apologise or anything. We were trying to explain that they should also be fair and considerate enough for take away customers (restaurant has empty seats and she the owner said it only takes 15mins for the food to be prepped). But she won't accept any suggestions and said we don't have a booking for seats (even if there are empty seats). What made me more upset is we were saying ok just stop and we are already waiting here outside but she kept shouting on us with hand gestures but when other Italian customers who went inside, she was sooo nice and lovely.
I wish she could be more fair, equal and considerate to all types of customers regardless if dine in or take away and she should know how to communicate and accommodate well. Customer is...
