Jerkpit Caribbean Smokey Grill — Restaurant in London

I kindly walked into the store and asked for a menu so I could decide what I'd like to order, they told me they didn't have a menu, its only up on the board. After I made my order (10pounds) the guy debits 13pounds of my debit card, I asked him why he charged me more, as i ordered a medium curry goat meal, he told me that they only do one size (LARGE) and its 13pounds, their board displays 10pounds medium, 12pounds large - i told him but that's not what the board menu says, he then told me that it needs to be updated those prices aren't correct. As a customer I asked for a menu, you didn't have one except the board menu, it was his job to tell me that the prices on the board aren't correct, instead he advertised wrongly! - to make matters worse, all of my food was microwaved right in front of me, i totally understand the covid measures they might have to take but other restaurants are serving food as normal, who knows how long their food has been in those packets before, you should at least let the customer know so they can decide if they want microwaved food in packets for such ridiculous prices, i'm so disappointed, i could've cooked at home for the same price for days. never going back again, i need to find a decent Caribbean restaurant, they think they're the best so they offer...

Edited: the raised the price of their dishes by a couple of quid each two months after opening. Large Jerk chicken and rice is now £12. Pisstake

Positives

The food is delicious. I had the large jerk chicken a rice and it was scrumptious. It comes with plenty of salad and is a very generous portion of both chicken and rice. The flavours are amazing. Don't get the hot sauce unless you can handle it though! The packaging was good too.

Negatives

The service was very slow and the staff looked a little miserable. The prices are on the expensive side, especially for an area like Barking! The meals should be a couple of quid cheaper - I would buy more often if so. Also, I've noticed that the meals are even more expensive on ubereats which is taking the piss. The food was lukewarm when served.

Overall I really like this place and glad it is in Barking. I'll only order once in a while though because of the price. If they lowered it a little they'll be sure to get more custom. Given a high score because of the taste...

Similar sentiment to the lady below. The food didn't taste fresh. I love caribbean food and ive tasted some really good ones. Some of the chicken was cold/lukewarm, rice was piping hot. Aside from freshness and temperature the flavour of the chicken wasn't intense enough. It tasted like it was made for a European palette. There wasn't enough scotch bonnet or thyme coming through. The mac and cheese was the worst part. I was expecting so much more after reading the description. There wasn't any sharpness from cheddar or any colour to the sauce. The cheese sauce looked like it was just bechamel with some red pepper added in. It looked (and tasted) like an old mac that had grated cheese thrown on top then grilled. My partner had the brown stew chicken. It was average at best, but looked nice. Disappointing. I personally didnt finish once I tasted some cold chicken. I was a bit concerned about food poisoning.
