Upper Deck Restaurant — Restaurant in London

Went here for mcm may 2023 on all 3 days for dinner. Generally was not a good time as:

Friday: Friend ordered just chips but the box was not even half full. Barely the bottom of the box. I saw three other staff laugh and smile before coming back with 1 staff saying it is a lot. Other friend had to complain and really push just to get a fair amount of food. Other friends food tasted bland, especially the burger. Also, when I said I'd pay for 3 wines, the staff at the till said "3?!?". I get its a bit much, but her look and tone was a lot.

Saturday: Didn't know till days later as I left early. But food was bland, started playing incredibly loud music halfway through the meal and made my friends wait 45 mins for the bill and asked 'I guess you don't want to pay for the service charge'.

Sunday: Came this day as I thought Friday was a one-time thing and wanted to give a second chance, especially as its close to the con. The same staff member was a bit sharp and whenever I'd say thanks or anything similar, there would be a moment of silence and she would say something perhaps similar to enjoy food but couldn't really hear her. I also asked for a jack daniels and asked what she'd recommend. Her response in her expression was like confused as to why I was asking. Got coke in the end as thats the normal but made the situation awkward. The food was still bland but the pizza was good.

In general, staff was monotone the whole time apart from the one staff member who was kind to me to take my plate. She was the only professional person there. The restaurant was very nice, staff were friendly. I ordered the southern spiced buttermilk burger, my partner ordered the margarita pizza.

Our food came out after 10 minutes, great stuff. Chips were piping hot, burger was not. The burger felt like it had been sat on the plate for too long and had cooled down. I used to work in hospitality so I understand that sometimes other foods are ready before some foods.

I took my first bite of the burger, the taste was great, as the burger was luke warm I did not chew the burger which was a good thing because when I looked down the inside was pink and fibrous. It was not cooked properly.

I do not complaint ever about food and had it just been cold I would have left it, but the burger was raw still and I don’t take any chances with chicken. I told a member of staff who said “do you see on the other side of this wall (to the right of the bar were some stools) speak to the blonde lady” who happened to be the manager.

I explained the situation and she took the burger away asking what I wanted in return, I said pepperoni pizza, it came out 4 minutes later, cheese was not melted properly, base raw, doughy and anaemic. Now I understand they probably rushed to get it out as I had been waiting but it wasn’t cooked properly either.

Used this restaurant twice over a long weekend as it's part of the Novotel and convenient if you're staying there. On the first night we ordered starters and mains via a seemingly attentive waiter. However, this is where it starts to go downhill.

When our food arrived, the mains were laid in front of us first. I thought they'd just forgotten our starters, but then our starters were then placed next to our mains! Once we'd finished our starter-main combo, we were promptly forgotten about and had to flag down someone to have the table cleared and the dessert menu given to us. The waiting staff's English was passable, but I found a select few of them quite curt, borderline rude.

On the second time, we both ordered the same dish, but only one was put through to the kitchen, so I had to wait further while they rushed to make my missing dinner.

I thought the quality of the food was nice and the prices were OK for London? We had the ribeye and the burger across the two nights and both were very good. Found the drinks to be quite pricey though, and they whack on a service charge of 10% to your bill.

Overall, a passable experience in that I didn't go to bed hungry, and though the food was nice, the poor service and general mismanagement put a dampener on both...
