Amazing find of a place! Thought it was a bit pricey till the mountains of freshly cooked food arrived at our table. We had a food allergy to contend with but the landlord was great, checking with the chef to make sure we hadn't picked unsuitable dishes. Photo is of the Korean Bbq Chicken Naan which was amazing! Staff were friendly, service was quick and the food fresh and tastey. Portions seem to be generous no matter what you order, couple next to us had salads and they were massive, the ladies jaw hit the table when served to them. Will definately be back!

The waiter was not so friendly or knowledgeable on the alcoholic drinks, therefore minus a star. My visit started off rubbish due to above. I had to wait extremely long to put in my order as well. I really didn't want to enjoy my meal but I honestly did. I ordered the steak pie and chips. The meal was huge! The perfect portion. The pieces of steak in the pie was extremely tender and delicious and the chips were just as yummy. Two stars for the pie. Two stars for the chips. If I were order from here again, I'd order to go.

They even got some Ting (c) in so we could have the legendary TingWray* cocktail. A good range of beers and sport on TV too for when it’s raining outside. Dog friendly beer garden - unlike the Wetherspoons around the corner. *Wray & Nephew over-proof rum poured over ice and served with Ting and a slice of lime - give it a try!

If I could score lower I would.

Absolutely awful place.

We first walked in and all seemed nice and relaxed. However, the manager on that evening (a young lad with tattoos) was so incredibly loud and rude to both his colleagues as well as trying to make "funny jokes" which were just disgusting to everyone else. We ordered the food which came out pretty quick. Food wasn't anything special but by no means was it bad .... so I thought.

As the evening went on I started to feel quite woosy and thought it may have been the sea air or a cold.

At about 2 in the morning I woke up to explosive sick which went on until about 5 in the morning. The food poisoning lasted to make me feel awful for the next few days but I can honestly say I have never felt so ill.

Just for peoples record. I ordered the Tikka masala which was either a microwavable meal or a batch made meal that had been left and no properly reheated.

AWFUL!

Can not recommend for you to avoid this place enough.

We have been visiting Ilfracombe for many many years,and only stumbled across the Hip last year. We have just arrived home from our visit to ilfracombe and have visited The Hip 4 times this week for food and drink,and can honestly say the food,service and staff are 10/10. The quality of the ingredients are exceptional,the bar staff and waitress' all served us with smiles and the man I believe to be the owner shows exactly what customer service should be like,he had a great rapport with all his customers and nothing was too much trouble. We have found our new favourite place to eat whilst on holiday,and the added bonus of them being...

Nic and the crew did a bang up job accommodating for our large group on a busy Wednesday evening. We had pre ordered the food after great, fast communication with the team and had been reserved a lovely spot in their beer garden. There was not a single complaint or whine from anyone in our group about the food. It was FANTASTIC! Great portion, everything cooked to perfection and a PROPER spicy sauce! The biggest win for me however is the quality of the service. The bar staff and waiting staff were incredible from start to finish and couldn't do enough for our group.
