Excellent place for breakfast. We came here at 9:30 on a Monday morning. There was only a handful of people dining. The coffee was excellent and I had the full English breakfast while my partner has French toast. The food was outstanding. My breakfast was probably the best I've ever had. Sausages were proper posh, toast was from excellent bread. None of it seemed like it was from a supermarket or basic. It was all rich and full of taste. None of it seemed like cheap shop bought products. All home made style foods or from high quality producers. The price was also excellent. The full English was around £12 as well as my partners food. Which was really the highest priced items on the breakfast menu. The Cafe was warm and chilled. Great views and good clean decoration. The staff were very polite and willing to help at all times. The kitchen was open and you could see the chef making the meals. Music was playing and very relaxed. Overall one of the nicest places I've been for a morning meal. I'll definitely be going again. Extremely highly recommended!

Thought it would be nice to try the new place in the yard, however it was most disappointing. Ordered our drinks and waited 30 minutes even though the place was empty, was told it was because we ordered smoothies, which makes no sense. We questioned why our food had not come out after 40 minutes of waiting, and told the kitchen lost the ticket, not sure how you loose a ticket when its so quiet. Food was very disappointing, garlic pizza burnt and made of very cheap dough, lacked any flavour. Cheese balls were ok but for price was not worth it. Buttermilk chicken burger very cheap again and in a very cheap bun, the wrap was also very disappointing. Tried to order more drinks but staff hanging around the bar, had to go get one of them, tried to paid the bill again and no staff around, had to pay at the bar. Overall really bad food, really bad service. Wont be going back!

Fantastic decor inside! Great location in Royal William Yard. We visited on a Sunday evening and it was quieter than expected, I suspect because it's very new! Also (and I suspect for the same reason) there were a number of drinks items not available. Our servers were friendly and polite. Some menu items seem quite pricey. I had the Spaghetti Carbonara which was tasty but too much sauce/liquid for my liking but that's a personal preference I guess! My partner had the New York Steak Ciabatta - again, it was tasty but with any steak dish it's always good to check with the customer how well they want their steak done (the steak my partner got was pretty rare). Overall, we had a positive experience in a great setting. Just thought this feedback might be valuable!

Went for lunch and had a very pleasant waitress serve us. A few tables were taken but there was still plenty of choice of where to sit. Plenty of food choices so my husband ordered some sort of steak sandwich and I ordered the sea bass. We shared a plate of dough balls to start. Our drinks arrived soon after ordering followed by the dough balls, which unfortunately weren’t very nice. We waited quite a while for our main course to come. In the meantime a gentleman, who I presumed was the manager, came to us and apologised that our main course was a bit delayed and he would send over some more dough balls. We declined. Eventually he came over again and apologised most profusely that they had no steak. He offered my husband anything off the menu free of charge. My husband ordered a burger. The burger arrived and was placed in the middle of our table, which I thought was a bit odd. We sat for a good 5 minutes waiting for my sea bass to arrive all the while my husband’s meal was going cold when we decided we needed to catch someone’s eye and ask where my meal was. With that we were then told that there was no sea bass until the fishmonger arrived. At this point I was pretty annoyed. It was over an hour since we’d placed our order and it took them all that time to tell me I couldn’t have my meal and that was only because we’d asked where it was. I, like my husband, was then offered an alternative meal free of charge. My husbands meal was going cold and by the time I’d had my meal cooked he would have finished. Not only that, I was looking forward to the sea bass and I was now so disappointed and amazed at what was going on, I’d completely lost my appetite. I ordered nothing and sat whilst my husband ate half his meal before we left. The only good thing about this whole diabolical episode was that we were not charged for our drinks and dough balls. If this is the way they’re going to run this business, they’re not going to...

We visited the Royal William Yard on Saturday. A beautiful day so decided to sit in the sun and have a hot drink. Hadn’t been to News Cafe before so thought we’d give it a go. We arrived at 15.15. Most spare tables outside were piled high with crockery- throughout the duration of our visited we noticed staff delivering food and drink but not taking any dirty crockery back on their way back in. General public were clearing their own tables and we watched people go to sit down and then decide to go to Seco next door - we should have done the same at that point. I went inside to order a couple of drinks to be greeted with more tables piled high with dirty crockery and someone complaining at the bar they had been waiting 20 minutes for 2 drinks. I ordered our drinks and 25 minutes later went back inside to chase up the drinks - no staff were working on the hot drinks area and apparently our order hadn’t come through to them. We received our hot chocolates promptly after that and we were offered an extra drink if we wanted it - we didn’t as we had somewhere else to be. Lots seemed to be going wrong- short staffed, sections not receiving orders and staff not trained in basics. Events going on down the RWY and the weather was forecast to be good - it was always going to be a busy day and it felt News just hadn’t got everything in place to cope. News Cafe is perfectly situated, a beautiful location. All venues have bad days - it would be great to see News Cafe turn...

we went for lunch mid week the food was excellent by the way but we where surprised by the amount of dogs in the restaurant but i must say most where well behaved as we where seated we noticed that there where dogs sat on seats at the tables , About half way through our lunch a couple came in with a small dog that was aggressive towards the other dogs it yapped and whined all the time. it was uncontrolled and jumped up at the staff while they carried food and drinks orders or anyone who walked past ,this dog was also encouraged to sit on the furniture .that"s fine at home if that"s your thing but i do have to question it in a restaurant ,mine do not sit on the furniture at home and I would not encourage it in a restaurant .I do understand that this dogs behaviour is not just down to the dog it self but the owners all so need to be accountable too . If i wanted to be surrounded by yappy whining aggressive dog i would have gone to the RSPCA for lunch instead. Being a dog owner my self we would still have to reconsider if we return to eat at the news cafe Plymouth. look out for the service charge we where not informed of it until we paid please look for the small print. after our visit i would...
