Bierhaus in Reading is a delightful slice of Germany tucked away in Broad Street Mall. This authentic German pub delivers a robust experience with its hearty cuisine and stellar beer selection. The classic schnitzel is a standout—generously portioned, crispy, and served with sautéed potatoes, though some might miss the traditional sauerkraut or a lemon wedge to cut the richness. At £17, it’s a fair deal for the size, but a proper steak knife would elevate the experience. The menu also boasts other Bavarian staples like bratwurst and currywurst, with vegetarian options ensuring inclusivity. The beer selection is the real star, offering premium pilsners, wheat beers, and steins of Erdinger or Dortmunder Union that transport you straight to Munich. The atmosphere, with its Semperoper Dresden-inspired décor, feels lively yet cozy, perfect for catching up with friends. Service is quick and friendly, though some reviews mention occasional staff brusqueness. Conveniently located near the Hexagon, it’s a 10-minute stroll from the station, making it an ideal pre-show stop. Despite minor gripes about cutlery or inconsistent sides, Bierhaus delivers a satisfying taste of Germany with reasonable prices and a warm, inviting vibe. A must-visit for beer enthusiasts and schnitzel lovers alike.

We had never been here before and didn't know that it was here found it on a Google search. We booked a table prior to attending. When we entered we received a very good welcome and I think it must have been the owner. They asked if we needed any help with the menu or anything else. You go upstairs to the tables and the stairs are a little steep and my wife uses a walking stick but she did get up there okay but coming down i think a hand rail would have helped. You have to order at the bar and that is not a problem and the bar staff were very good. There was a bit of a wait as the food was cooked from fresh, but the portion sizes huge and the food was very good and tasty

2nd visit here & both have been great. No frills but good honest authentic German beer and food. First time I had bratwurst which were delicious & the sauerkraut the best I've had outside of Germany. This time Beirhaus roulade, pork filled with cheese/gherkin & pan fried, it was tasty but unfortunately rather overcooked on one side which made it tough. Think it was probably an oversight on chefs part as all other meals have been top class. The wiener schnitzel is amazing! I particularly liked the strawberry beer and the banana beer also went down well. Would recommend a visit if you like trying different cuisines, we will definitely return.

Myself & my daughter enjoyed some lovely German beer here last Friday.. so decided to return for lunch on Sunday..I am a lacto vegetarian for the past 30 years + & she vegetarian since birth. I ordered a vegan meal .. & she a vegetarian meal with a side of sauerkraut for us to share.. which obviously was marked V. However toward the end of our perfectly nice meal we found meat in the sauerkraut!! You can imagine how sick we felt. We reported it to the staff.. who just said sorry.. they didn't seem to care tbh! I asked for the managers email & sent him a message. He was a saving grace for the whole un palatable scenario! He apologised profusely & arranged a full refund. I am grateful for his understanding response & good will gesture. However I wish it hadn't happened in the first place! I urge all vegans & vegetarians to tread cautiously & check your food if you visit this place, due to the lack of knowledge concern & understanding of the staff! ( With the exception of the manager) very disappointed. .. won't be...

This is THE place I recommend in Reading! When I'm at a loose end and want great food and excellent beer: Bierhaus! When I go out with friends: Bierhaus! As someone who's worked in Bavaria, I love the food: it's amazing value, great tasting, and nowhere ever does kasespaetzle! As for the beer: the selection is amazing, the Spaten is brilliant, but they also have arguably the world's best beer: Augustiner Helles! It has a bavarian bierkeller vibe, which makes it a little loud at times (so not great for that romantic night out!) But it's exciting and vibrant! Check the opening times as they're a little limited, but that just makes for a great, friendly atmosphere, enhanced by the...
