I had been traveling and arrived in Inverness feeling hungry. I came upon the River Grill after crossing the footbridge into town and I wasn’t sure if I’d find something that sounded good. I decided to try it, and WOW it was amazing! I ordered the sizzling chicken with basmati rice and a salad (£18). It was a plentiful portion of tender, flavorful chicken cooked with peppers and onions in a light sauce. It was like the fajitas where I’m from (Southwest US), but with different seasoning. You know the cast iron plate that fajitas are cooked on? That’s what I had and they came out sizzling. The rice was perfection! And the salad was crisp and fresh. I can honestly say I enjoyed this meal more than many others I’ve eaten on this trip to Scotland, and I like all foods but get tired of deep fried food, burgers, etc. I felt like something not too processed or bread heavy, and with some kind of fruit or veggie and this sizzling chicken definitely fit the bill. The service was quick, but there was only one other table with patrons. My food was delicious and cooked well. I’m surprised at the negative reviews, so I decided to write my positive one (which I rarely do, because who has time for that?!). Usually it is the unhappy person who writes the review. Oh well! If you eat at River Grill, try the sizzling chicken! I can’t speak to any other menu item, but this one was a winner and I would 100% eat...
Read moreRead moreNever have I had such a rude and unprofessional interaction with a waiter. After a long 12 tour in the Highlands we were looking for a quick bite to eat before going home for the night. We walked around the city and were turned away by a couple places because they had no room unless you had a reservation. We walked into River Grill as it looked like a simple restaurant and grill as their sign said with a basic non-fancy menu. The host took us out of the building and upstairs to a more fancy dining area but said don't worry it's the same restaurant/food. After a long day all we wanted was soup and salad, not a heavy meal. We tried to order that and the waiter said "you're only eating side dishes? That's not good enough for us". Apparently you have to spend at least 15 pounds. The way he said it was probably the worst part. He was very loud and kind of made a scene. Unsure how to react to this we said we can order something different. I ordered a glass of wine so mine was 15 pounds. My friend had to order another dish. Spoiler alert, the soup wasn't even good. The food and service was 1000x better the previous night at 27 across from the castle. After leaving the restaurant it looks like we were actually in the Indian restaurant upstairs. Maybe they are owned by the same person?? Not sure, either way this situation is...
“KITCHEN NIGHTMARES”
We went here today as we were travelling around the city. First of all, we were not really sure which restaurant to go to as everything was fully booked so we ended up going to River grill as we were starving.
We ordered our starters. Calamari was definitely frozen probably bought from Tesco, my friend had a soup that literally came from a tin can.
We’ve waited ages for our mains to come and didn’t want to make a fuss about anything as it’s the last day of our holiday so we just wanted to enjoy it. There was a group of table who sat after us and their food came first and we got our mains after 40-50mins.
The mains arrived to our table. My friend ordered crab cakes that were literally frozen cakes and took 40mins to cook. My other friend ordered pasta with prawns, and they were horrific, bland, and inedible that he didn’t even touch his food at all! We ordered mixed grill and they were very dry and over cooked. We didn’t have a choice but to eat some of the food as we paid a fortune for Tesco meals!
We didn’t even get any check back from the servers didn’t ask us for drinks as we finished all our drinks waiting for our mains. Wouldn’t recommend at all! OVER PRICED TESCO MEALS!
PS* Gordon Ramsey...
