Station Hotel — Restaurant in Scotland

My husband and myself came for christmas lunch. We attended the 4p.m. sitting. I really looked forward to this particularly as I have been told by a few that they have eaten and really enjoyed their meals. I did enjoy what I had but felt that it was no better than any other christmas meal that I have had in the past. However I was disappointed at the time it took for the meal to be served. WE left at 7p.m. as we had made arrangements to meet friends and could not wait any longer. Approx half of the tables were empty when we left and a few people sitting close to us left before having their deserts as they had taxis booked. WE had no tea or coffee and waiters had made no effort to start serving this as they were too busy clearing tables of the customers who had already left. The other disappointment for me was that our table seemed to have been missed when setting up. WE had no crackers, or cutlery and had also to ask for salt and pepper. We had to wait some time to attract someones attention to get this and this may have been due to sitting at a pillar and really not being seen by anyone. I feel that this was very un-organised and although I may consider returning to have a lunch I would certainly not consider returning for a christmas day lunch. I've had meals in here at lunch time and they were lovely as were the staff. My dinner experience on Friday night was not so much. The food was incredibly salty. I LOVE SALT and even I struggled. The chunky chips, when served, were a very dark brown colour. They tasted fine but the look was off putting. We ordered some drinks, my mums order was a GnT with lots of ice. It came in a massive goblet with 3 small pieces of ice. When politely asked if we could have some more ice it was taken away and returned to us with 4 pieces of Ice. We found this a bit passive aggressive to be honest. The staff could've been friendlier. We were greeted with a grunted "name?" Then she pointed at table about 20ft away and grunted " that one's yours" or menus were dumped onto the table without a glance at us. All a bit disappointing, especially when you're handed a £50 bill at the end. This was for two starters, two courses and two drinks. Given 3 stars instead of lower based on the fact I've had some lovely lunches...

Visited Station Hotel for the first time and will not be back.Ordered fish and chips for myself and friend from the a la carte menu as no other menus seem to be available on Sundays.. A bell seems to ring when food is ready and I jokingly said well that’s not ours although no one else appeared to be in the restaurant for food..less than 2 minutes after ordering our food arrived. Obviously not freshly cooked!|The batter on the fish was burnt and the fish itself tasteless.. Reheated food tasting terrible. Most of the food was still on the plates when the girl came to remove them. It was explained how disappointed we were with the uneadible food but no apology was received only a shrug of the shoulders. Very disappointed with the service or lack of customer service as well as the poor quality food. Avoid these premises unless you are willing to accept poor reheated food...
