We came on 13.04.2024 before a concert, for a family meal for 5 people. We always used to come to TGIs Sheffield pre-event at the arena but stopped coming for a while as the service went rapidly downhill. We thought we'd give it another chance after having not been to this branch for a couple of years or so.
We were sat down straight away, and someone took our drinks order. It took 10 minutes to bring 2 pints, another 5 minutes for 2 waters and then another 5 minutes for someone to tell us the cider we asked for was out of stock. It was then another 10 minutes for the 5th/replacement drink to come, and arrived with a glass covered in bits of food and lip marks around the rim.
For starters we ordered a sharing starter for 4, and corndogs for 1. For mains we ordered 2x pasta dishes, 2 New York strips steaks (both medium rare), a burger and some loaded fries.
The corndogs came on their own, and the sharing starter came 10 minutes later (after having asked twice where it was). With the sharing starter they brought the loaded fries from the main course, which we had to send back - these were also in a tiny bowl, nothing like the big plate they're pictured as in the menu.
Both pastas from the mains came shortly after that with a new loaded fries (much bigger and better than the first one) but nothing else. We asked three times were the other 3 mains were, and a manager eventually came to apologise. She said she would personally cover our table and took all the food back.
The manager also asked what we'd ordered for mains as they only had 4 dishes down (despite the server correctly reading it all back to us when we ordered) and it turned out they had forgotten the second steak.
20 minutes later, one steak dish came cooked well done, not medium rare and so was sent back.
The second steak dish came 5 minutes later, then another 10 minutes after that the pasta dishes came back - all with no cutlery. Asked twice for cutlery so 3 of us could at least start eating, that took nearly 10 minutes. Then the burger came out (all with the salad and mayo we'd asked for it without) and 15 minutes later, once everyone else had finished their meals, the original overcooked steak came out. It was cooked right, but half the size of the first one; super thin, almost gammon like. We'd given up on sending things back by this point.
Went to the toilet - which was filthy and toilet roll everywhere - and heard another staff member telling another table that THEY were the manager and would look after their table from now on etc. Same script we'd been given by someone else. The atmosphere was chaotic as staff were all clearly either stressed or not bothered, and lots of people waiting around for food/drinks/complaints.
Cocktails came out in the standard refill Pepsi glasses, and not the fancy glasses they're pictured in.
The manager (or one of them!) came and apologised again, and said they'd remove all mains from the bill. Got the bill, only 4 mains removed so had to contest that again.
Utterly disgusting, especially given the cost - eg. £28.99 for steaks that were incredibly thin, overcooked, sloppy sides.
Dreadful experience all around. Kind of them to remove the mains, but as expected really after such a bad time - would much rather have paid the full amount, and had a decent meal. Completely ruined the trip out.
We will never return to TGIs Sheffield, and should have trusted our instinct/memories of past visits to not go in the...
Read moreHonestly I don’t know where to start with this review because I can’t actually believe how badly this TGI’s has gone down the pan. As an ex member of staff who worked there for 6 years i’m shocked and saddened to see how it is now 🫤 We visited tonight for my cousins 17th birthday, the table was booked for 6 and there was 8 in our party. The place was dead but it took a while for our server to come over. When she finally did, I asked for a Haymarket, the server had never heard of it, and asked me what it was and the ingredients etc.. just wow!. Anyways I ended up with raspberry mojitos because they didn’t have the specs to make a Haymarket.. they were lovely I’ll will say that and £15 for 2 on the 2-4-1 was good, however they came with paper straws! 😑 Cocktails with that much ice need plastic ones! I had to keep going to the bar to get new ones because they’d gone too soggy to drink though and the girl serving us was no where to be seen. We ordered our food after looking through the extremely overpriced, downgraded and unappealing menu. The cheapest thing on there is the invisible fries - no joke! 😂 The server on the next section came over and gave my Daughter a little pink balloon dog which was really sweet, but it was so tiny with barely any helium in it, it looked like super worm after 10 minutes and then later she brought her a picture to colour in but forgot to bring the crayons with it 🙄 We sat for a hour and waited for our food and for most of it we had empty glasses and needed more drinks and some refills. When our server finally appeared my uncle asked for a refill on his coke and she said they don’t refill coke just diet and when he said he didn’t know she sarcastically barked “I did tell you that” at him. Rude. Anyway we’d ordered mainly burgers, pasta and chicken dishes with sides of fries and garlic breads and a kids chicken bites meal with a corn on the cob. Half of the meals were cold. One had clearly been sat under the hot lamp for far too long and my side of Sweet potato fries were an absolute joke! There were 10 in my bowl. if the manager hadn’t taken them off the bill, I’d have paid £6 for 10 chips. The server did apologise and get me a fresh bowl which were brought out in less than 5 minutes but when I worked there they wouldn’t have ever made it out the kitchen! The chicken on the pasta was practically non existent, 2 of the garlic breads were cold and corn on the cob was like rubber. To add the women’s toilets we’re vile, loo roll on the floor around the toilets and on the seat 🤢 the floor outside the toilets, back of house entrance and all down the 2 top walkway were slippy with some kind of grease or cleaner which is dangerous in a heavy traffic area of the restaurant. We spoke to the manager who was lovely and listened to our complaints, and she handled them appropriately. She was very apologetic for our bad experience and took some items off the bill that weren’t satisfactory. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this place. It’s not the same old loud, happy, smiley Friday’s with that buzzing and friendly atmosphere that it once was 🙁 it’s a shame, I won’t be...
Read moreI've previously left a 5 star review for this restaurant but it wouldn't let me leave another review so I've had to delete the previous review so that I can write a new one about our most recent visit.
This was supposed to be an enjoyable birthday meal, but we feel like we've wasted 2.5 hours of our evening and paid £160 for the privilege.
We arrived at 5.40 as a group of 6 (4 adults + 2 children) and waited 20 minutes for our drink order to be taken. Service was generally slow throughout the visit, despite the restaurant being quiet, but we were happy to wait.
The appetisers and mains were slow to arrive, but the final main never arrived. After 5 minutes, the waitress came over and asked if we'd got everything, and we told her we were missing a burger. The wrong burger was then brought out and we had to ask for it to be changed to the correct burger.
We'd ordered a side of mac and cheese, but this was too dry to eat.
We were brought lemonades that had no flavour so had to ask for these to be replaced.
We ordered 2 cherry tangtastic cocktails and waited 15 minutes before the waitress came over to tell us that they were out of stock. We then asked for long island iced teas instead.
It took over 20 minutes to get the bill. We tried several times to get the attention of staff and eventually went to the bar to ask for the bill, then to wait longer for the bill to be brought over. There were several other tables also waiting for their bills, who looked visibly bored.
When it finally arrived, the bill had the wrong burger on it (it had obviously been put through incorrectly on the till), as well as being charged for the cherry tangtastic cocktails that were out of stock (in addition to the substitute long island iced teas).
We asked for the bill to be corrected. The waitress (Elizabeth) turned her back to us and rolled her eyes, before going to ask a manager to correct the bill.
Finally, we were brought the correct bill. We paid this, then Elizabeth said "enjoy the rest of your evening" and rolled her eyes again.
We've had so many fantastic birthday meals at TGI but this experience has ruined it for us. The food wasn't great, the service was slow, there were too many mistakes and then we were treated badly when we asked (very politely!) for these mistakes to be corrected.
The staff really need training in customer service. If the restaurant is understaffed, this needs to be resolved, rather than the staff taking it out on customers.
TGI has always been the place we go for family birthdays, but we will be looking...
