After eating at the Almanack last night for the third time in a week (just the way it fell) this place simply has to be one of the best gastro pubs around. Since it's refurbishment the atmosphere has just got better, but it's the food we go for. 'Curly' Rob and his team in the kitchen work wonders with the food. There's the 'normal' al la carte choices and the specials to choose from, each will get your taste buds tingling. Try the 'slow and low' specials ... to die for! You have to also give high praise to the front of house and waiting staff ... they know the food being served and will always tell you how it comes, and will always find the time for a quick chat no matter how busy the place is. It's going this little extra mile that does it for us. You're made to feel special and valued. If that's the Alamanck's ethos coming down from the directors of Peach Pubs then it works.
Ok, so the menus aren't the cheapest in Kenilworth; if it's cheap you want, go elsewhere. The Almanack sources it's food to the highest levels and for that there has to be a premium, one I'm very happy to pay for.
Always best to book, as it's gotten very popular, so that has to say something about the place. You can always sit and just chill and drink in the 'bar' side, but I dare you not to succumb to eating once you've see the special boards and smelled the food being served!
Haven't done breakfast there yet ... but that'll come. Not just yet as Sunday lunch beckons for our wedding anniversary next month!
High five to Sam and the team ......
Read moreGot to say this was a poor experience for Mother’s Day. Customer service was really bad all the way through. Took a drinks order when we first arrived and it took almost 30 mins to get a drink. Understaffed and the manager really didn’t care about the service when we mentioned it. The food was average for £20 I expected a lot more on the roast, the Yorkshire pudding was soft and really dry and the veg was under cooked and the roast potatoes / parsnip were cold and hard. For pudding the dessert’s were not great either my mum ordered an apple crumble and it came out as a berry crumble with very little crumble mixture. The two treacle tarts were cold and not very nice was more lemony and my wife had honeycomb ice cream and it was basically vanilla ice cream with caramel sauce mashed through it.
Sorry to say not a great experience and I did mention this to the manager which did not offer any apology or sympathy just wanted the money which for 5 people £165 isn’t bad but not when the food was a average standard and cold and the service was poor. Sort it...
Read moreUnfortunately we had booked at 8 o'clock on a Sunday for dinner for my Mum's birthday due to the parking machine we got there at 4 minutes past. When we arrived the manager greeted us and told us he would be a minute but instead sent over a younger waitress to us to tell us there was no pork, no beef and not enough chicken left to feed our party of 3 people. It's quite embarrassing for the manager to be too scared to tell us himself but instead thought it was okay to send over someone else. When the waitress did go to get the manager he was rude and dismissive telling us to deal with it or leave. When speaking with him he got very riled up and aggressive towards us and telling us to please leave a review online instead of standing in his restaurant. He said that the reason why they had run out of food was due to us being 4 minutes late. Very poor manager and pathetic man shouldn't be in the public sector if he's too scared to actually talk to the customers! Also there was only about 5 covers at 8 clock so wasn't even busy. Don't go there would...
