What a perfect spot on a cold blustery day. Cosy wood fire, stone walls, low ceiling, quarry tile floors; a sense of both an English pub, which it is, or a remote old Greek tavern on an island in the Med somewhere. Gorgeous setting, close to public parking, and an easy stroll to the Wednesday and Saturday farmers' market in the smallest City in England, the lovely historic Wells. The menu is so difficult to choose from! All those lovely Greek foods reminding one of sunny holidays on the beach followed by a lazy swim. Greek food really is so good. My wife and brother-in-law had the calamari starters which they really enjoyed, and we all had the Katafiotiko – Lamb shoulder marinated overnight in red wine, cooked with peppers, tomato, potato, onion, herbs and Kefalotyri cheese served with Greek salad. Very tender and tasty. We followed with a variety of deserts: Quince – in red wine, brown sugar & scented geranium leaf, served on ice cream, Melomakarona – a Christmas dessert in Greece, made with orange, Metaxa brandy & honey, served with crushed walnuts & cinnamon cream and one Baklava. We were enjoying ourselves so much that we ran slightly over their lunch closing time, but the lady was very accommodating. We will certainly be back! There’s so much more to try: grilled Halloumi, smoked pork loin starter, beetroot and yoghurt dip, souvlaki, bifteki to name just a few. Well done to the team, we are very pleased that we found you.

A pop up Greek taverna based in Wells. I saw a sign advertising and being a fan of Greek food, I decided to give it a try. The place was spacious with polite and attentive service and also offered outdoor seating in good weather. I ordered the pork souvlaki and a main village salad. The salad was alright, the olive oil used tasted thin compared to decent greek olive oil which was what I was expecting for the cost of the salad. The souvlaki chips were nice along with the tzantziki however, the bread was a little burnt, and the souvlaki was ok but nothing comparable to some of the good Greek food you get in London. Unfortunately, the price was a little high for what you got in terms of quantity and quality. I sincerely would like to see this place improve and succeed in the future.

Excellent restaurant in former pub. There is a pretty courtyard garden, and the restaurant has a lovely atmosphere. They serve authentic and delicious Greek food. Service is impeccable. I cannot begin to tell you how impressed I was by how they coped with my garlic allergy. They talked me through the menu, made special garlic-free food for me, thought proactively about related foods which might cause a problem for me, and gave me very reassurance throughout the meal, so I was able to relax completely and enjoy my food. A shining example of how to handle allergies. Brilliant!

Great little restaurant, booking recommend at weekends. Our waiter was fantastic. Kindly fitted us in between bookings as we had no reservation. They don't advertise a kids menu but will do nearly all the mains as a half portion, which is basically half the main bit (meat/fish) and just as many chips and sides. Service speed was spot on and the waiter was attentive enough to know we mattered but not so much he became annoying. Children really liked the imported Greek sour cherry fizzy drink. I highy recommend the burgers 'not in a bun'.

After an abysmal Greek culinary experience in Shepton Mallet, arrived at the Greek Taverna in Wells with some trepidation. However, I was transported back to Amorgos, where the sun shines, the staff shines and the cuisine shines too. Greek beers, wines, fizzy pop, homemade hummus, cheese, bread ... the use of Greek olive oil ... all very Greek and quite pleasant. A delight in every way!!!
