A Festive 4th of July Feast at Cocina Azul in Albuquerque Traveling to Albuquerque on the Fourth of July, I was looking for a memorable meal to celebrate the holiday, and an AI app recommended Cocina Azul based on glowing reviews. I’m glad I took the suggestion — this place truly exceeded my expectations. I ordered the Christmas Enchiladas, a name inspired by their vibrant red and green chile combination. The menu offered an impressive variety of meats for the enchiladas, from tender brisket to flavorful carnitas — a rare find and a delightful twist on traditional Mexican fare. The portions were generous, leaving me satisfied and craving more. The heat level was above average but perfectly balanced with the rich, smoky NM chiles — absolutely unbeatable. Be warned: the heat might burn twice in, and out, but it’s worth it for the delicious experience! The flavors were authentic and robust, making each bite a true celebration of New Mexico’s legendary chile. Juan, the chef behind the magic, is Juan in a million — an outstanding cook who clearly puts his heart into every dish. The staff was cheerful and upbeat, and our server Champagne was the star of the show. She was fun, knowledgeable about the menu, and had a great personality that made the whole dining experience even more enjoyable. Overall, Cocina Azul provided a fantastic dining experience, and I’ll definitely be returning. Celebrating Independence Day here made the holiday even more special — I couldn't have asked for a better meal or a happier ambiance. If you’re in Albuquerque and love good Mexican food, don’t miss this gem!

Great service! Good food! Excellent happy hour! From the outside it looks like a pricer place than it is so don't let it's appearance throw you off. This is a casual eatery but a step up from your average Mexican restaurant. There is a full sized bar and several tables placed in the bar area. A low wall separates the rest of the tables both helping keep the noise level down and separating those that don't want to sit by the bar. The same waitress that seated me took my order, mentioned the noon to 2pm happy hour, and made sure I had refills and everything was to my satisfaction. I ordered the brisket street tacos (per another Goggle reviewer's suggestion) and was very pleased with my selection. Street tacos were small but you are provided 6! And 2 sides. I chose calabacitas (yellow & zucchini squash with corn, tomatoes, & onions) and rice. Also provided red & green sauce, lettuce, tomatoes & guacamole. Sour cream provided upon request. The brisket was juicy and flavorful, the rice so moist---some of the best flavor I'd ever had, but as far as the squash dish I could have eaten just a large bowl of that & been very happy. The combo was very delicious and satisfying. And with 2 sugar rimmed on the rock margaritas ($4.50 each)---one peach & the other strawberry (actually had alcohol otherwise I wouldn't have ordered another) it was a very good meal. I highly recommend this restaurant if you're in Albuquerque. No frills but great service & good food! And to top it off the manager offered me complimentary pineapple sorbet from Frost's!

I had a pleasant lunch experience. Victor was a kind and attentive server. I decided to go with the rib eye tacos(substituted flour tortillas) and an unsweetened iced tea, everything tasted fantastic and felt fairly priced, the portions may even be on the large side for lunch, which isn't a con for most guests. The food came out fresh on an acceptable amount of time. Compared to the lavish new Mexican exterior, the interior is clean and modern and borderline under decorated, which isn't a major issue, just unexpected on my first visit and aesthetically shocking. The staff seem to be younger but go getters none the less, which I support. I would give 1 more star if they had more seasonal/ artisan type options, I know the kitchen is capable and they would benefit from upping their game.

I seriously don't understand how this place has a good review. I went for my "after" mothers day celebration because it was a new place to me and had good reviews (seriously, who are you people and why?).

The atmosphere looked nice online, but looked like an old pizza hut inside. Ok, fine... looks not everything. Our server looked like she was bored to tears and had semi decent tableside manners. She looked at me like I had 4 heads when I asked for posole as a side to my relleno, even though it was listed as a side.

My daughter ordered a cheese burger (which she did love, so I'll give them that), myself a relleno plate, and my husband some sort of weird enchilada. There was no flavor. The rice was plain white boiled rice with nothing added to it at all in tiny side bowls meant for sauce. Like I could make a pot of white rice at home... and it'd probably be better still. The red chile was like straight puree with nothing added, thick and powdery tasting... like maybe just powdered chile dumped into some water or something. The posole had chile on it... and by on it i mean it was the smallest dollop of thick red paste. The green chile was chile and tomatoes.

The presentation was horrendous... multiple little sauce bowls for all the weirdness and a sloppy main plate. The rellenos were barely even battered. When we said we didn't like it, our server was kind and accommodating.... however, the manager didn't even make an appearance at all. Never even saw em.

I was so disappointed. We still tipped her well because it's not her fault the food was atrocious, but this place needs a serious do over. We ended up at Los Quates where multiple had said they've heard nothing good come from cocina. Sad. There's potential but honestly made taco bell...

So, I've been coming here for years and it's always great. The food is consistent and the queso is to die for. Unfortunately my last experience left a bad taste in my mouth. I ordered through Door Dash. Upon the arrival of my meal (sopapilla pizza) I noticed there wasn't any chile. I called the restaurant to inform them and the only option I was given was to call Door Dash for my money back. There was no accountability, and no intent on correcting an error. I was then told that that particular menu item required the buyer to specify they want chile. My Husband used to be the manager at this location so I asked him if this was correct. Also, as a foreword, I have ordered this exact item the EXACT way several times and never had an issue. Anyways, he did in fact state that the meal always comes with chile and none would be the exception. Considering this is a NEW MEXICAN establishment, this seemed common sense. Well, the lady was sarcastic, rude, amd offered zero way to correct the order. I then went down to the restaurant in person. I spoke to the person at the pick up window and explained my frustration with the handling of this situation. She then admitted it was her I had spoken to. I then asked for her superior to which she rudely replied "She's taking tables" and I stated I would wait. Low and behold, her manager was actually right behind her and was able to take my complaint. Once again shirking responsibility. I spoke to the manager, who also failed to make it right. I told her to take the information and do what she chose to do. I guess I'll get my chile...
