Incredibly good BBQ, after a 8 hour road trip from San Diego to Flagstaff to buy a truck, the paltry mcdonald's breakfast we ate when we left home was no where near enough to hold us over for the day. As we were climbing the hills and mountains to reach Flagstaff, the terrain changed and we were welcomed by cooler air and plenty of tall trees. Before coming into town we saw peeking over the roadside Agee's BBQ calling our names. We were hungry and tired but knew we had to pick up the truck as soon as we could and head back home. After we finished our transaction we decided to take the leap and spoil ourselves with some highly rated BBQ. We pulled into their lot, parked our vehicles and headed inside. That's when our lives changed....
It had a very homely atmosphere, wood sculptures lined the ordering area listed for sale. The smell of delicious BBQ lingered in the air. A gentleman had ordered what seemed like a family meal consisting of every meat they had available. Watching the host crumble the pulled pork looked amazing, watching her slice into juicy brisket, turkey, and pork belly made our mouths water. It was finally our turn to order and we split 2 plates between my brother and myself and ordered every meat they had available. Unfortunately they had sold out of turkey and ribs but were fortunate enough to try the brisket, pork belly, pulled pork, and sausage. Let me tell you that when we sat down and poured on the bbq sauce, we knew we were in for a good time. The meat was flavorful, with a good bark, smoky aroma and pungent umami taste that flowed through every meat they had laid before us. We savored every morsel, and the sides.....oh lawd.....the sides. The garlic mashed and Mac were incredible. We finished our food and immediately wanted a nap. Leaving Agee's totally satisfied, I give this place a 9/10 for presentation, 10/10 for flavor and a 3/10 for distance from my home. If I ever come back to Flagstaff again I will definitely be giving this...
Read moreMy chief complaint is that there is never enough food on hand to supply the customers. Every single weekend, it's the same thing, show up at 1500 and wait 20 to 3 50 mins in line to find out there is nothing left. This could be explained away of it had only happened once, but to be out of food, at 3pm, on a holiday weekend(like this one), have customers waiting outside for 30 mins to be told as they get close to the door, "we have nothing but turkey and sausage left". Someone is failing at their job, not ordering enough supplies to cover a basic weekend, (not mention a holiday weekend,) every weekend. I get the sell out trick, it's a business decision to only prepare so much product, and sell it all, but every single weekend since the beginning of April?(2020) My family and I use Agee's to plan our food menu for the weekend, and when there isn't anything to serve the customers, and they wait outside to hear this ... It's less than a positive experience. The place is closed Memorial Day so that's one day less to plan for food storage and prep... Suggest someone ramp up the supply for the business so customers don't wait outside in line to find out there's nothing to eat but the stuff very few folks eat. Only reason for a 4 star rather than 5 star. Lack of planning. Edit, April 3, 2021. Again, no food to eat but a few pieces of brisket and sides. Regular weekend and not enough...
Read moreI know nothing about the food. I took my Internet date here. I walked toward the entrance that had been a hardware store years ago. Without glasses, I could only discern an arrow pointing right on the door (photo 1). I went right to the next door. It had no sign (photo 2). I entered, surprised. I was confronted by a well-fed, angry man working the trough and wearing an apron of authority. He told me I came in the wrong door. Already in, I walked three feet behind a customer. Still agitated, he mentioned health codes. If they were violated, I couldn’t erase my entrance in space-time. What are the chances of an inspector being present at that moment? He pointed to another door and said, “That’s where you go out and come in.” It made no sense, but I complied. I went out that door, turned around, and reentered. My date outside came in that way afterward. Still angry, the guy announced, “I’ll serve your wife, but I won’t serve you!” I said, “I’m okay with that,” and we left. I give zero stars for site management. All it took to avoid this was “No Entrance” or even another arrow if the customer isn’t wearing his glasses. This is the short version in deference to the reader. My name is Lou, and I stand...
