Worst dining experience my fiancee and I have ever had together. First of all, we both work in the service industry/customer service. So we are wonderful customers. We are generally very easy to please. We dined for the first time in Asheville here. The food was good, but was already getting cold when it got to us. We had to ask several times for more water. There was one girl running food and bussing tables and she was amazing. The rest of the foh staff was all literally puttering around the bar. We waited after completely clearing our plates for about twenty minutes before trying to get anyone's attention. You'd think we'd be checked on in that time. No, several times our waitress, the other waitress and a hostess passed by without even looking in our direction. The table next to us got their check (same waitress) and at this time we started making it obvious we needed her attention. (We were looking around trying to catch anyone's eye, we weren't waving snapping or yelling. Trying to be respectful) she completely ignored us despite the fact we were done eating well before the table beside us. As well she was only about seven feet from us giving them their check. I thought for sure at that point she'd come over and check but no. Disappeared into the back. Comes out. Disappeared. Everyone else continues ignoring us. One poor girl running around like a loon working while all the other girls were 'helping at the bar'. I understand jumping into another station when they need help but there was three girls drying glasses. Come on. At this point our waitress decides she's going to pour drinks and take orders for the couple at the bar. I had to go up and interrupt and ask for the check, which is the first time I said or did anything rude. (Sorry for interrupting your customers, not you). Writing this out I genuinely cannot believe this is what happened.. but it did. We were in the restaurant for about an hour and a half. Eating and waiting for food ECT only took maybe 45-50 minutes. The rest of the time was us trying to get the staffs attention. I had half a mind to just walk out the door without paying. Bet we'd have your attention then huh? Such a garbage experience I'm still upset we even had to pay for food. I would have asked to speak to a higher up but I did not have it in me to not to completely cause a scene. I don't know if we were intentionally ignored, we did not order alcohol so maybe we were not profitable enough to pay attention to. But in that case, wouldn't you want us in and out and gone to clear that table? Either that or I guess we look like someone who did them wrong before, who knows. Bottom line is if you want good service,...
Read moreFor the price and reviews, I had much higher expectations. Drinks: Cocktails were fabulous. Wine selection is very poor for an upscale French restaurant although the Château Boutisse did pair well with the meal. Starters: the mussels were very underwhelming. The ravioli, however, was probably the best I've had. That sauce was perfection. Mains: Boeuf Bourguignon was under-herbed but still pretty good. The Steak Au Poivre was great, but the vegetable medley was pretty much steamed veggies that taste like a slight step above a Meat&3. The fries were amazing, but not exactly the reason we sought out this restaurant. Dessert: Was disappointed they didn't have the Classic Crème Brûlée and only had pumpkin creme brulee that just tasted like fancy pumpkin pie. Service: The waitress was very friendly, but I think was new and didn't know how to manage tables well. Took a while to even get water and often felt neglected to other tables. She did, however, course our meal well. And I know this bit sounds a bit picky, but when you have a $300+ check for 2 I have come to expect a certain level of service: I was very frustrated that the plates weren't cleared between courses and we were left with a table full of dirty dishes. After a while, my partner politely said "Sorry to bother you, but would you mind taking away some of these". She happily said "no problem!", but only took one or two things leaving it still feeling cluttered and dirty. Another nit-picky thing while I'm here - I like my silver replaced between courses, which is normal at nice restaurants, but I know I have to ask for at other joints. When I asked here, they just chucked another napkin roll with silver on the table leaving us with too many napkins and nowhere to put anything because of all of the dishes. Atmosphere: I loved the vibe of the place, decor, lighting, and safety precautions! I'll admit, though, that I made last-minute reservations and thought the "bar" would be fine. They placed us right in front of the staging area looking into the small kitchen full of bus tubs and inches from the POC. We were the only ones at the bar and could have easily been moved to the end where we would have had a much more intimate setting. I'm not sure I have ever disagreed with a Google restaurant rating before now. Maybe it was an off night for the kitchen and just that waitress, but I'm not willing to spend another $300+ to find out. It was overall an underwhelming experience, especially for the price. I wish we would have gone somewhere else. I would go back if the prices were lower or the food was better - but the combo is a...
Read moreThe food at Bouchon in Asheville, North Carolina, is truly alive.
My wife and I got engaged and married in Paris. We fell in love with French cuisine and gastronomy during our visits there and have always found ourselves wanting more.
We had a fantastique server named Leila who sat us at a table near the back of the restaurant on the patio. She was incredibly kind and even accommodated our small dog Ollie with a water bowl.
We started our meal with the French onion soup, and it was absolutely perfect. Many French onion soups tend to be too salty, but this one struck a perfect balance of hearty cheese and onion with a refreshing broth at the base. The onions were chopped perfectly. Paired with some French bread to dip into the broth, it was equally impressive.
My wife, who is pregnant, skipped the wine, while I enjoyed a glass of the Fournier Sauvignon Blanc. It had a great aroma intensity with a fruity palate and a touch of acidity. It paired beautifully with the Parisien Mussels.
For my entrée, I ordered the full order of Parisien Mussels, which did not disappoint. They were so flavorful, and the mussel broth was divine. I used some of the leftover bread to dip into the broth—it was that good, I could drink it straight.
My wife ordered the Steak Frites Bouchon. Since she was pregnant, she asked for it well-done. I am grateful to the chefs for respecting her request, as I know this is not the ideal way to cook steak. She was very happy with the result and enjoyed her entire meal.
We ended our dinner with dessert. We shared the chocolate mousse (without chocolate chips) and the 100-year-old crème brûlée recipe. I did not want to share my crème brûlée, and she did not want to share her chocolate mousse—to say the least.
This food is intoxicating. We have traveled all over the U.S. looking for a great French restaurant that takes us back to our time in France. Very few have come close, but Bouchon has succeeded. This was without a doubt our best experience at Bouchon. Thank you to the owners, chefs, and servers who put so much care into their craft—we love everything about this restaurant. Most of all, thank you to Leila, who made our experience unforgettable.
Bouchon, which means "cork" in French, is inspired by the bouchons of Lyon, offering authentic French comfort food in a warm and welcoming environment. Their dedication to traditional French cuisine and exceptional service makes them a standout in Asheville's vibrant...
