This was one of the worse experiences I have had in a very long time. I read the reviews and I thought I would give them a chance to win me over as a loyal customer, since they were just reopening. I am a longtime lover of Caribbean food. I should have listened to the reviews and never done it. We work 5 mins walking distance away from location on Buford hwy. We called ahead to place order to avoid a long wait time, as we only had 1 hour for lunch. The person who answered was unprofessional, didn't know her menu...they blew me away when she told us they don't have yellow rice...what Caribbean place do you know that doesn't have yellow rice???? Then the call hung up twice during ordering process. The young lady gave us a 20 min wait time for pick up of food. We arrived to an empty restaurant. the tables and chairs were old, mismatched and knee high. the cook walked in 10mins after we did...35 minutes waiting, we asked for an estimate of time for food to come out. waitress said the cook just arrived and owner/am cook had to do deliveries that morning so food was just being cooked. At 45-50mins waiting, I asked to speak with manager and was told he was now cooking and would not be able to come till he was done working on other orders. WOW!! were we not "important customers"? did our order not count? I work in customer service daily and I was very upset by that response. The waitress goes in to the back and comes out with one of the three orders (Jerk chicken, rice & peas) we were waiting on and it was wrong...she apologized and took food back again...came out a second time with 2nd order (stewed chicken & 2 sides) of the 3 orders and again order was wrong. I was ready to walk out and leave the food...she kept apologizing and offered a 15% discount. Once the 3rd of our orders (Jambalaya) came out it was the only part of our order that looked like it was cooked fresh. After an hour and 5 minutes waiting for our orders, we took the discount, paid our bill and left with food in hand. We now had to eat at our desk while working, not a happy customer. The end all to be all was the food was nasty/horrible!! Meal 1. chicken was undone or old meat would not come off bones...jerk seasoning was weak, cabbage looked and tasted like a salad, rice and peas were dry, dry, & mushy. Meal 2 stewed chicken meat stuck to bone, mac & cheese was crispy not creamy and cabbage was salad. Meal 3 Jambalaya was the best but the complaint was beef was tuff and chewy. I wasted my $15 and will never return or refer any one to this business and we eat out at least 3 times a week. NEVER, EVER, EVER!!!!! $3 for a 9oz bottle of Ting...I feel robbed and I still have no lunch...my dogs might eat this, might. RUN AWAY FROM THIS PLACE..1 star is too good for this place, and anyone who says they enjoyed it has never had good Caribbean food or is taking kick backs$$ ...
Read moreI was in the buckhead area and feeling for some caribbean food i and my lady decided to check the closest caribbean restaurant in the buckhead brookhaven area and they popped up on my app we saw some of the horrid prior reviews about spice that could have swayed us and also looked at the website the picture of the food seem really nice and did not seem to be the same place been reviewed my lady was not willing at first to give it a try but after much delibration we decided to give them a try ..First of all we noticed they were very cordial and professional they all had on uniforms the location was very neat and the lady that attended us was so helpful with explaining the menu we had the oxtails rice and peas and we tried the african cuisine and got the jollof rice goat meat plaintains this was SO SO TASTY i mean i have never experienced flavors like i did my lady loved the OXTAILS they were so soft almost falling of the bone.. We had good drinks to compliment our order and we did mention to the manager on duty how great our experience was and also the horrid reviews that seemed rather personal as if trying to distort the image of the young GEM of a restaurant he did say they had increased the level of their service and wait times which we also observed was well within the usual time .Well my girl is actually now more hooked than i am she has taken her girlfriends over there twice in a row ..We had to award FIVE STARS the food is freaking AMAZING and yes they will be catering OUR...
Read moreSpice Bistro is really only good as a last resort. Compared to other Caribbean and African food places in the area the food is the worst. I went around and tried all Caribbean and African places in metro Atlanta and Spice Bistro is dead last. For one, delivery takes too long if they even get to where you are. Usually they don’t tell you if you order the food on a Monday, you won’t get it until the next Friday. That is an exaggeration, but be prepared to wait no less than 3-4 hours for your food. Next the food portions are very slim for the prices that they charge. A simple plate of white rice will cost you an extra 4 dollars and they put one spoonful of rice on your plate. The Suya is terrible as the meat is too lean and thin and not enough for the price set. Next, if you order delivery or grub hub from these people, they are liable to forget whole menu items and not refund you the money for what was missing. Very crooked business tactics. I understand running a restaurant is difficult, but these people cut every corner imaginable and still give you the worst result possible with your food at the highest price.
Like I said, Spice Bistro is a last resort as far as supporting a black owned African food business goes, but if you have the time and want true quality go to The African Grill in Stone Mountain or Tropical Cuisine in Duluth. Fair prices, great quality and most of all...
