Sunny's Backyard — Restaurant in Austin

I would rate Sunny's many, many, many, more than just five stars if Google allowed me to do so! I was fortunate enough to be able to dine here on their opening night, and the food is just absolute fire! 🔥 I am not vegan, however, I honestly did not notice the food was vegan as the presentation was vibrant, flavorful, and just the right amount of spice. I would argue STRONGLY that their beer battered waffle fries are probably amongst the best I had, and that coupled with the loaded fries condiments, really made for an extraordinary appetizer. Aside from the food, the environment is going to be buzzing: dog friendly, live music, a real wonderful place to just hang out! Do yourself a favor and just go try this place out and I really think that this is only the beginning of an amazingly well thought out...

As a vegan, I’m naturally food-driven—you appreciate things more when you can’t get them anywhere/everywhere—and over the 9 years i lived in Austin and during subsequent visits back, I’ve made it a point to try and support new vegan spots. That’s all to say, I’ve been to (and eaten) A LOT, and this is absolutely in my top 3–a total eyes-rolling-back, omg experience. We got the bulgolgi tacos, pub pretzel(s), fried banana peppers, wonton cheese sticks and spare-rib wrap (to share, I swear!) and everything blew me away. Beyond that, it’s a great backyard, the cocktails are killer and the service is super friendly. Might move back to Austin so I can come every weekend....

Picky Cheese Lover / Garlic Hater: Cheese!! Yep, cheese is the reason why I stalled at trying plant-based foods with non-dairy cheese. While visiting Austin I saw the high reviews and multiple comments about Sunny's waffle fries with credo queso , I figured it was a lot of hype from non-picky cheese eaters. I was wrong. These waffle fries were unexpectedly tasty ---- full of texture (crunchy fries )& flavor (vegan spare ribs) & a little heat (jalapeno) AND the credo queso & aioli (savory) do the amazing job of pulling everything together into a single delectable bite.
