Update; November 3rd 2024 Still pretty good food and nice clean place. Place was empty when we arrived. Three people are there. Older lady, young chef and young lady at the register. Not greeted and we left there was no thank you for coming in. The meal of course as you know has gone up a lot in the last few years due to inflation. With that, the portion size has been smaller. If you're going to charge more the whole idea is you don't get a smaller portion. The chicken I received on my meal was a butterfly breast and only half of it. I know meat, this was very little and it was under portioned. The vegetables, let's not go there. Skimpy on the vegetables. Just a teaspoon of each thing maybe. Quite disappointed. We have to drive 20 miles to go to Tokyo Joe's now. I'm not sure I want to do it much more unless I'm in the area.
My wife and I used to visit when the restaurant was in Phoenix on Camelback road. Since they moved now they are 18 mi away. But whenever we are in the area, it's a real treat to stop in and have lunch. Customer service is always top notch. Very friendly. Food quality is great and even with the outrageous prices at restaurants today, they are not way out of a line like so many other places. We used to visit many other restaurants and have simply stopped going because their prices have shot up 30 to 40% in the last 3 years. Tokyo Joe's is gone up a little but again not out of line. We always leave full and...
Read moreOrdered the sirloin steak bowl with white rice. The cashier was looking at me as if I wasn't done, so I figured I'd add some vegetables as well. $1.50 for a handful of mushrooms and a few diced green onions?! I really wish the cashier would have mentioned that because I would have went without.
The bowl came out and my first thought was, Whoa, that's a lot of rice. The meat was covered in Spiky-Aki sauce and relished with some sesame seeds...oh, and the mushrooms and green onions that I didn't want to pay extra for.
The flavor was good. Spicy-Aki was not spicy at all. Maybe it's a tad less sweet than regular teriyaki? I don't know. The meat, however, does not taste fresh. Kind of dry and if it weren't for the sauce, it wouldn't have much flavor. It is a very lean meat though, so bonus points for that.
Once all the ingredients we're gone, I still had about a half of bowl of rice. The amount of rice to meat and veggies (if you mistakenly get them!) seems really disproportionate. Just look at the menu...110 calories for the meat, and 330 for the rice. C'mon Joe's, quit being so meager with the meat!
The restaurant is super clean and trendy. Oh, and great ambient tunes were playing. Overall, I really wanted to love this place, but I left thinking that it...
Read moreI have eaten here a few times and loved it. Tonight was very bad. The poke bowl I did w greens, I've had this before, the container was so small...for $11...I'm glad it was small tho. I don't like to waste food, and couldn't even eat half of it. The ahi was cut so weird, and gross, wasn't cold, so that concerns me, and it was in thick square chunks, never saw it cut that way before, it was mushy and had a lot of membrane like stuff in it. Yuck. The sushi person put red pepper flakes on my bowl which I did not ask for, but is one of the ingredients I could have chosen, and for me it totally ruined it. The bowl/salad was a huge disappointment. The poke roll...the rice was hard like the sushi u buy in the grocery store already made, in the plastic container, and breaks apart when u try to eat it. There was almost no ahi or avacado on top, the tiniest specks I've ever seen, but there were huge chunks of cucumber inside there...way too big...:( I've had both items before and loved them. Prob won't be back anytime soon. The staff pretty much acting like they were at someone's house party... :( felt like I had crashed a private party. Bummer. I had great food the first few times I tried this place. Gone...
