Title: "Disappointing Experience – Unethical Practices at Zacatacos"
I've been a loyal customer at Zacatacos, praising the food and staff for years. However, our recent visit left a bitter taste. We ordered 2 kids cheese quesadillas, clearly priced at $2.50. On the menu it literally just said cheese quesadilla. To our surprise, they arrived with rice. Waitress didn’t say anything or why it had rice. But who complains about getting free rice. However a $5 charge, conveniently labeled as a "kids plate" on the receipt came with the $47 bill. When questioned, the waitress admitted the owner raised prices but hadn't updated the menus. I asked her how long ago he raised the price. She said about a month. I know there is nothing I can do about it.
So I just asked her if she was going to change the price to $2.50 like the menu said. She just told us no there was nothing she could do. She said the owner added rice and raised the price. I asked if I could talk to the owner then. She also said he can’t speak very good English. She left to talk to him, No go. No care. Despite our concerns, the owner showed no interest in addressing the issue. The second waitress at the cash register to cash out even told me it wasn’t right. She then told the owner about it after telling me they have other items on the menu that are not priced correctly. Then the owner behind the kitchen window rolled his eyes at me and reluctantly adjusted the price to charge us $5 total.
This isn't about $2.50; it's about the lack of integrity and business ethics. The owner knowingly overcharges customers, putting staff in an unethical position knowing it happens and they are being told to just hope nobody notices and not to bother him to talk to the customers. This will be my last visit to Zacatacos – a disappointing experience that reveals the owner's disregard for honesty and customer trust. That’s a line as a business owner you just can’t come back from. A breach in customer trust creates waves far beyond one $47 meal. The lifetime value of a restaurant customer is far larger than...
Read moreSALT!!!! One word to describe the flavor. I am not sure if it’s in the seasoning or just feel they need to dump it on, but that really needs to be toned down.. had a really hard time finishing this dish ( steak fajita nachos) I also tried the tamale and the masa ratio was not great.. there was Barely any meat and wasted the big hunks of masa that were left over. The Sauce they put on it could be thicker as it was just a watery pool on the bottom of the plate. My co worker felt the same way with the quantity of salt that was in his dish. Felt as if my mouth was burned after the meal and there wasn’t anything spicy on my plate. Drank lots of water after .. which helped. If you like the flavors of this place and live in Saginaw, you can get it better at Alejandro’s Mexican grill. Not sure if same recipes or not but they were nearly identical besides the 200% more salt of this place. Service was ok… didn’t really keep busy and sat around the counter. I have had worse overall but will try again and see if it was just a fluke and the chef was off his game… will repost whenever...
Read moreWife and I were told that this was the taco spot in Bay City and we'll..... Everyone was right.
The food is spot on from their fresh made flour tortillas to their flavorfully marinated meats!
We both shared a steak fajitas meal and also tried their traditional Taco along with the Al Pastor. Wholly taste'sation all around. The fajitas were delicious to say the least. The tacos were great and crunchy, but that Al Pastor left something for your taste buds to scream more!
Everything was truly delicious all the way down to their rice and beans. The Pico was fresh and so pleasing with wonderful hints of cilantro throughout.
Only hang up of anything of the entire experience was the "juicy" container with our fajita meat and peppers. Just something to consider if one is going to attempt to eat from the container on the go maybe.
Will be making this establishment @ZacaTacos our go to for traditional Hispanic dishes that are next level on the epic...
