This is my first ever restaurant review, but I felt that my experience last night warranted it. My wife and I ate there last night for her birthday. The signage needs help, and when we walked in, nobody was there to greet us. In fact, we thought we were in the wrong place or it was closed. They apologized and said there should have been someone out there to seat us.
First, decor: This is one of the most absolutely beautiful restaurants I have ever eaten in! I was wearing jeans and a sweater and was worried I'd be kicked out. But we were fine, and there were other people in casual attire as well eating there. You have to see this place. Wow.
Second, service: The waitress was friendly. Our only hiccup is that they brought us the second item (Krakow Special) instead of what I ordered...I forgot the name, the top menu item, called the "Grensk?" Anyway, she seemed to not believe me when I said we ordered the first item. We said all we wanted was to try the Kielbasa and Sauerkraut and that is why we ordered it. So she brought some out for us to have and apologized for the confusion, so we were happy. Also, the food came out quickly.
Third, food: The food was delicious!! Polish food is mild by nature, and this was no exception. We had pierogies, potato pancakes, kielbasa and sauerkraut, stuffed cabbage, and cheese-filled fried crepes (my favorite!). Everything was great, and the portion was perfect!
I am writing this review to say that although there were a couple issues, they fixed them, and the food was absolutely delicious! We will definitely be back, and I highly recommend this if you are looking for good food at a reasonable price. We were under $40 with my wife having wine with her meal.
One final note: I read someone complain about the food, and yet they ordered calamari and salmon. This is a Polish restaurant! Order the polish food on the specials on the back...
Read moreNow I didn't find the food a Baltic all that "exotic". (Can you call European food exotic? ) I say this because I grew up eating a fair amount of the food on the menu. While that may be for me, you don't find this did everywhere. This place does stand out to me. While they have been in the current location for some time, I don't know why I was aware it even existed. I have driven past their old location and new for years! Well that's my bad. I should have been going here for years. Now that i'm aware of them I look forward to going back. Ok, i'm going to give my excuse and say I did have a headache this night. So that's why I was drawing a blank when I was looking at the word "shnycel". Ok maybe my headache isn't a good excuse now that i'm sitting here spelling it out. I guess it just sounds way different to me to how it's actually spelled... Either way, the shnycel was excellent. It was one of several things I hadn't had growing up. With the beets and potato pancake it was like being a kid again. And like being a kid I could not finish my meal. I found it to be so much food! Even so that wasn't going to stop me from trying a dessert! I believe they were out of chocolate mousse that day, which is a must have for me, so I went with the crepe. With the berries it was to die for. Just the perfect size (for me) with amazing flavor! One thing that stood out to me, well two things actually, was how strange it is that they close so early. But even more so is how slow it was. Now this could have just been that it was early in the week? Or it simply could be that the other side of this is a banquet hall and maybe that's where the big business is for them? I don't know what the answer is but this is a must try! That said, obviously service just great! I hope to get back here sooner than later! Sorry the pictures may look a little off in color. Lighting was...
Read moreI went with 5 other adults, 3 were locals, 3 were from out of state, around Christmas time. Let me start off by saying this - the food was delicious. However, the older woman waitress we had was TERRIBLE. It was just appalling how rude she was! We were all taken aback. My mother-in-law, said it was the rudest someone had ever been so close to her face, she was very upset! You could say she was partially to blame, as she had the "audacity" to ask where her side dish was when the woman was leaning over her to put down a plate - which is why the woman was so close to her face when she was so rude. I asked if I could get the jaeger sauce with my weiner schnitzel instead of just getting the jaeger schnitzel (the difference is the schitnzel would be breaded with sauce, opposed to unbreaded with sauce). She wide-mouthed stared at me in silence for a good 30 seconds as if I had just grown two heads. She acted like it was unheard of. Here's a tip about customer service, if you have never heard of something being done before and you're not sure if it can be done (which it totally could, just make some jaeger sauce, it's already on the menu! The kitchen did this for me, seemingly without issue!) just calmly say "I'll have to check with the kitchen". This woman ruined our experience here...we're still talking about how bad the service was. It's really unfortunate because the food was really good and the young adults who got us water and bread were very sweet, but it just isn't worth it to go back. I know I couldn't convince my family members to come back even if I tried. I suggest the owners/managers look up a book called "The Ultimate Question", and consider how this poor customer service must be affecting their business. Again, it's unfortunate that the food is so good, but it's just not enough to keep us...
