Yall sadly I even know the family who owns this resturant, I grew up with their children. El Saltillo USED to be absolutely outstanding from the moment you walk in until you leave afterwards. In the past I NEVER had a single issue, but with me coming in town to visit my home I wanted to eat here above ALL else & these past 4 times have been a very rough experience from the service starting at the front door, to the kitchen with the quality of the food all the way to when I go to leave. The manager doesnt at all seem to really care to build any type of relationship with customers, he seems kinda annoyed, gives short responses, and made me feel uncomfortable/awkward more so with the lack of care that I chose to even spend my money here... Not trying to get anyone fired at all but we need some better energy coming from the manager ( works at register these past few times cashing me out, tall, shaved head). I was hoping he has an off day the first couple times ive met him but that doesnt seem to be the case at this point unfortunately. This is a beloved company, ever since LOS TRES AMIGOS was in business until they opened up this El Saltillo Chain. I TRULY MISS the loving atmosphere, respect, and very disappointed in seeing the down hill negative energy.. Alan on the the other hand gave me astronomical service and made me feel like this place was home which meant the world to me, bless that young man and thank you for being an amazing young man with such phenomenal energy, you have a super bright future my...
Read moreI used to love this place back when I was stationed at Gulfport Naval Base in 2019. It was one of my go-to spots—reliable, delicious, and consistent. Sadly, that version of the restaurant is long gone.
On a recent family road trip through Gulfport, I was excited to revisit a favorite spot and share it with my loved ones. We ordered our usual, full of nostalgia and appetite. But halfway through the meal, I discovered something absolutely disgusting—a fingernail in my food.
I calmly notified our waitress, who brought it to management. That’s where things went completely off the rails. The manager insisted it was “oregano.” Sir, this is a Mexican restaurant, not an Olive Garden. And as someone who actually knows what oregano looks like, I can say with full confidence: that was no oregano. I even have a picture to prove it.
Rather than owning the mistake, apologizing, or offering any kind of resolution, the manager doubled down and told me I was “dumb” for not knowing what oregano looks like. Imagine telling a paying customer, a veteran, and a dad just trying to enjoy dinner with his family, that he’s the problem.
What used to be a cherished local spot is now a disappointing shadow of its former self, run by people who clearly don’t care about food safety, accountability, or basic decency. I won’t be returning—and I hope management sees this and takes a hard look at how they treat customers. Until then,...
Read moreBlah. No Coke products, so it's Pepsi or mediocre tea. Chips came from the bottom of the bag, most much less than half the size of whole chips.
I ordered pork carnitas. I didn't get pork carnitas in a delicious sauce with guacamole salad. I got dry, tasteless bits of pork in flour tortillas with lettuce and tomato (the waitress didn't realize those were separate dishes next to each other in the "pork" section of the menu. I kept it to be nice (that was before I tasted it).
My wife got chicken enchiladas verdes (that entree is in the "beef" section if you're interested). Bland.
In fairness, we got a guacamole appetizer that was really good.
Halfway through the meal, a couple was seated in the booth behind ours. The common seatback was very loose. Thank goodness it had a high back, or I'd have whiplash.
The waitress dropped our check off and disappeared. We figured out after a few minutes she wasn't coming back (pay up front, but you have to discover that on your own).
The manager-type person up front did NOT want to come to work that day (somewhere between surly and simply disaffected). I didn't say anything about the food, but I mentioned casually that the seatback needed to be tightened. He just stared mute (he speaks English).
It wasn't glaringly terrible, it is just that there is just no reason to eat there given the many better choices in the area... or a...
