Edit: Our first time here was phenomenal. I've been back a few times with the same success until our last time going there. I went with friends and we ordered a bunch of rolls. I love eel and ordered two rolls with it but noticed it was off and tasted like it had spoiled. My friends tried it and confirmed something was definitely wrong with it. Stuff happens, I wasn't upset and politely informed the waitress that the eel may have spoiled and she apologized. I ordered more sushi since the eel was in two of my rolls which were inedible.
After my additional order, she came back a few minutes later and said "Other people have been eating the eel and there haven't been any issues so I think this may just be you." I was a little surprised by the rudeness of how she said it and how she seemed to take it as a personal attack and offered to let her try one so she could see for herself which she declined. I didn't ask for it to be comped or free so I couldn't tell why she was being rude. I checked with my friends to see if I had said something rudely or in a way that would explain her reaction but they confirmed that I was polite.
I have changed the rating to 1 star because they just ended up being seriously rude and handled the issue so extremely poorly. All the staff gave us the cold shoulder for the rest of the meal. No one said thank you or goodbye as we were leaving and when I tried to say it to them, the chef glared at me angrily and the rest of the staff ignored us, intentionally. I don't know how informing them of a problem with the food became such an issue but I'm seriously disappointed as I loved the sushi but won't ever be coming back here. âšď¸
The food, service, and ambiance are all exceptional. The chefs take pride in the presentation of even the simplest of rolls. The sashimi Entree was extremely fresh and super tasty and thr Hawaii Mango roll was delicious with the ripe mango flavo balancing out the fish. The taro bubble tea is refreshing without being overpoweringly sweet. We will be back here...
Read moreI have heard this place has great service and hope to be able to experience that again some day. I ordered 3 simple rolls for take-out and the system they have in place is decent, but not perfect. There was no estimate of when it would be ready, so I waited 10 minutes and drove over. I was then told it would be at least another 10. They called me when it was ready. If I had been waiting at home for the call, it would have been sitting on the table for a while before I had a chance to eat it which is not optimal in my opinion.
I got the tuna and avocado, yellowtail with scallion and jalapeĂąo, and the eel tempura roll. I like eel, but don't remember trying the tempura version before. It was all decent, but nothing stood out as amazing. The cut of tuna was good, the yellowtail was a bit stringy and small and the eel was drowned out by the tempura batter. I was trying to keep the cost down, so I didn't go for any of the specialty rolls, but next time I'll try some of those and see how they go. For $22 I wasn't overly impressed by anything. The lunch deal might be a better time to try as you can get 3 rolls for $13 (I think most of what I got was on that list anyway).
There are a lot of sushi places around here and some have a better reputation than others. I would try this one again with some more interesting choices and see...
Read moreI needed to go to the pet shop in Brookdale to pick up an item, and then decided to walk back to the center of town via Broad street. I also had ever intention of having lunch, and looked through the window of one of my favorite restaurant called Pandang. Howeve they looked super busy, and I kept walking. I arrived in front of Momoya which looked empty. The young hostess told me I could sit anywhere, and then a very nice waitress came to give me the menu. I ordered a few items, and a little later was brought a bowl of udon noodels with shrimp. The reception that I received from this older Asian woman was extremely cold. While I was eating across from the shushi chefs, they both kept laughing, and I had a feeling that the joke was on me. Another young couple walked in, and they were greeted, followed by someone who was ordering take out, and he was given a greeting. By this time the two sushi chefs had stopped laughing, and were busy at work filling in the orders. When I got up to leave, the message I received was that my kind is not welcomed in their establishment. It is also fair to say that Asian food is my favorite, and I have eaten in a variety of restaurants from Chinatown, NYC, to Bangkok Thailand, and never did ever get that...
