Now I've ate here now 2 times and was let down both times here's why . When I eat bbq I want to get that smokey taste that good sauce that doesn't over power the BBQ and I love having a BBQ sauce is made to pair with certain BBQ THEY DO NOT DO THIS HERE ..... the BBQ here is over power with suace most of the time the BBQ is tuff the suaces they make all are either over powering or not thr consistency they should be . Now yesterday I decided since the 1st time I try they food I got multiple different plates and BBQ to try that I would just get a burger cause it's hard for a fast food or restaurant to mess up a easy burger . Well no shocker the burger taste like card board the bread was hard as a rock the lettuce and tomatoe was fresh but the fries was God awful had a after taste that wasn't seasonings. Like if I got to a restaurant or fast food place and don't even eat half of my meal with me being a fat guy that shows the foods not good at all . And if a restaurant or fast food place can't even make a good simple burger then that just speaks volumes on how they will fix the rest of the menu . Also if you love over cook BBQ with over powering BBQ suaace where you taste more sauce then meat then this is the place for you . I know I will not be eating here again cause the BBQ never was good the first time and then second time even a simple burger was nasty . The staff is nice bathrooms fairly clean the sweet teas good . They must have recently took the prices off the menu cause there was no prices on there last time I went. Also I don't recommend this for people who have epilepsy cause there's multiple things in the store that if looked at can cause seizures so I would say its 50/50 depending on where your at to not have a light flashing or something that triggers seizures. Over all I don't recommend the food at all and I honestly would rather go to McDonald's then here any time least ik my burger will be better then the pedalin pig and for the amount of food you order the price is...
Read moreMy wife and I have been going to Woodlands for 30 years since I was in school at Appalachian State. It has been our gold standard for BBQ ever since and we have driven to Blowing Rock several times for no other reason other than to eat at Woodlands. Several people recently told us that Woodlands was under new ownership and was not as good. I refused to believe it as I did not fathom how anyone would buy Woodlands and change the dynamic that has made it the best BBQ restaurant for so many years. We finally got the chance to go eat there today for lunch. We were so hopeful that not much had changed but we were so disappointed. The first thing I noticed was that the BBQ was stringy and seemed to have some sauce added to it. Woodlands BBQ was straight up the best ever with nothing added. Lean and smoky with no fat was always the Woodlands standard. This BBQ was mushy and the first bite was nothing but salt. My wife looked at me and asked if it seemed salty but I tried to be optimistic and took another bite. I finally had to acknowledge that it was very salty. About half the way though our meal my wife looked at me and said she couldn't eat anymore. I agreed and we had to stop eating as it was so salty as to be almost inedible. The red BBQ slaw that we loved so much at Woodlands was now so coarse that a fork could not pick it up. The baked beans were so bland that we ate a bite and did not have any more. I had pieces of fat and skin in my BBQ that were as big as your thumb. We ate about half our meal and the waitress asked it we wanted a box and we refused. There was nothing worth saving for later. We told the hostess about our experience not to complain but to hope that someone would realize that the changes were not good. Our lunch cost over $40 with a tip and we left...
Read moreReally disappointed. I've been going to Woodlands since I could eat solid food. It's been my favorite barbecue joint my entire life, the only one ranking higher is the barbecue my church puts on every year. The way Peddlin' Pig has taken it over is disheartening. I can understand removing the mexican food from the menu (which should be updated in the google listing) to focus more on barbecue while you transition, and I can understand raising prices (inflation is a thing), but I expect the food to still actually be good, and when I went over Labor Day it was not. Service was great, but the barbecue quality has gone down. I got a plate of chopped pork. Normally, that would be enough to make at least two sandwiches from, and three sides, and a bread. Now it's enough meat for a single sandwich, only two sides, and a bread. And, the price has increased, to eat less food. The chopped pork was greasy and full of fat, leaving puddles all over my plate, which is disgusting. It had no flavor, which is incredibly sad since they have pits, so I'm curious as to what has changed in how they cook to allow this. I couldn't even finish it. The sides were still great (fried okra and collard greens), as was the cornbread, but if the barbecue isn't good, I see no point in going. Hopefully next time I am up there I can give them one more chance and see if they've improved, but if they don't bring the barbecue back, it's sad to say I know many many people who will stop going, and it's sad that they'll have...
