Probably one of the most worst experiences I’ve had at a Mexican restaurant as a Mexican. It was the first Friday so as expected the restaurant was busy and wait time was 30 mins no worries, my mother who is over 50 years old has been following them on Facebook for a while now and wanted to give them a try so we gave the host my phone number and waited for a text or call,,,,30 mins go by and I look around and people are being seated so I ask the host where are in the waitlist “oh one table ahead of you” okay no worries, 45 mins go by I go back up to the host and ask and she said “oh we didn’t text you? Sorry about that” no worries y’all are very busy so we get seated with our menus and said she’ll be back to give us our silverware (never comes back) so we sit and watch as the tables around us get seated (all white people) and we look over the menus and we see one of the sister OWNERS literally walking around drunk and literally spilling stuff all over the restaurant and she and other guests just laugh it off like this happens all of the time?? Okay…so 20 mins we haven’t gotten greeted, asked us for drinks nada, and all the tables around us have gotten sat AFTER me and my mother and they have been greeted and served drinks so FINALLY after making eye contact with our waiter he asks us for drinks and all I can smell is ALCOHOL he’s drunk!!! So I just ask for water and my mother is trying to ask him questions and he is just out of it so I’m just like we both want water so he’s gone for maybe another 10 mins and I’m sitting there watching him serve all these other guests around us giving them his best and he still hasn’t come back with our water so I pull a waitress who walks by and she looks 15 and I’m like look we haven’t been served for over 30 minutes we are going to leave can you please let the waiter know “yeah no problem” then I watch her walk to the front of the restaurant and just sit and talk to I’m assuming her friends at another table, at that point we just walked out of there and what the actual F is wrong with that restaurant? Drunk owners, drunk waiters, like how irresponsible? And on the menu it tells you the story of how the restaurant came to be and it’s so heartfelt but these sisters who have taken over are running it into the ground no wonder that place makes no money and is so run down it’s...
Read moreIn the midst of an unprecedented winter storm ravaging Texas, this restaurant found a way to open its doors. When I called in my family's order I wasn't expecting much beyond a warm meal that I didn't need to cook myself; what I got was a pleasant surprise.
Let me start by qualifying the reason for only four stars instead of five. While all of the food seemed prepared and cooked very well, there were a few disappointments that didn't go unnoticed. That said, the mad rush in the last hour before closing, the extreme conditions outside, and just the overall horrible week in general are more than enough excuse for any short-comings. Therefore, I am more than willing to give this place many more chances to upgrade this 4-star rating to a 5.
The great. Excellently prepared enchiladas and tamales. Both received great comments from my family in flavor and overall quality. All meal portions were more than adequate for the price and left us all full and satisfied. The arroz con leche was amazing! It immediately took me back to my childhood breakfasts. I can't imagine any of their other desserts competing with the skillet apple pie. I always say that pie can make the world go round. This slice, with its thick crust and ice cream scoop topped in caramel, can spin the world like a DJ in a night club!
The good. The sides were all decently cooked and didn't lack in quantity. It just felt like there was something missing. Maybe a little more spice or kick in the rice or chili con carne would've made the difference.
The not so good, but easily tolerated. My entree, the El Goyito taco plate (brisket tacos) were just two tortillas with a little bit of brisket inside. There was no pico, no lettuce, or anything, not even a little cheese. This was the lone disappointment.
Otherwise, the meal was fantastic and, to be honest, I was quite surprised at the overall quality considering all that's happened this last week. Which is why I think the only disappointment on the tacos is more likely a product of the difficult conditions than any indication of their quality during more...
Read moreAfter a long break from Casa Rodriguez our family decided to give it another shot. We had seen so many good looking things online. Unfortunately it was still lack luster. The restaurant wasn’t super busy and our order took so long that people that got there after us were leaving before us. We asked for salt for our chips, it never came. I asked about what drink the waitress recommended and she recommended the margarita which sounded great, it wasn’t until after it got to our table I realized that everyone else in the restaurant with a margarita had one that was way larger then mine. It would have been nice to know if there were multiple size options. When our food came I had the wrong kind of beans and they didn’t have any knives available, which made it so I couldn’t eat because my meal required a knife. Once the correct things came(including the knife) we were asked if we needed anything else and when we said “no” our waitress didn’t come back until our meal was finished. For us that meant no way to ask for refills on drinks or the ability to ask for anything else. We considered ordering dessert but it took so long for our waitress to come back that we decided it wasn’t worth it to sit and wait an extra 30 minutes. Overall the food was decent but nothing super fantastic and the service was just as it was the last time we ate there. None of the things we experienced were a big deal but they all built on each other and made it into a not so great experience. If you have an hour and a half or two to eat a meal then maybe this is the right stop for you. I really wanted to enjoy the experience and hoped that our last visit was just a fluke, but that doesn’t seem to...
