First, I don't like Ross. But, I keep hoping. This day my wife & I stopped in since we were next door shopping anyway.
The giftware shelves where sparce and with the typicle one-of-each-item on display. Among the candles I spotted a half full soda bottle left among the merchandise. A few minutes later I spotted a half empty Starbucks paper cup on another giftware aisle. At that point, I picked up the coffee cup, went back two the candle section and put the soda bottle in my cart. And continued to look for my wife so we could leave the store. That's when I spotted three random coat hangers laying on a shelf.one was broken. Those too I tossed in my cart wondering, where are the employees who should be policing the store?
It's this type of neglect that gives Ross it's dismal reputation in the retail industry. At one time, it was primarily the toy department that remained a mess. Finally, someone took command and the store's toy departments improved.
I recall how the moronic parents would turn their children lose in that department while they shopped and never encouraged them to clean up prior to departing. I understand Ross' situation there. It made my frustrated level rise watching it happen however, when a pipe springs a leak, you can't just let it run day after day. It must be fixed. Like the toy department. The rest of the store soon reflects the effects of management's lack of concern.
As we left the store, I passed off the cart with the beverage containers & broqken coathangers to two Ross Employees, whom appeared to be possible management personnel(?) Who stood talking together at the entrance. As they received it, I stated, "Here, I just saved one of your employees a little work today as I cleaned off your selves for you." No, I didn't stick around because they went on talking together as I exited the store.
If this was a rarety at Ross, I wouldn't take the time to write at length. Unfortunately, this is all too common at too may Ross stores from CA to OR that I have been in over the years.
The employees do a good job. The problem is, they're too under staffed. And where is management to see that the store remains presentable at all times
Not all Ross stores fit the above category. There are exceptions. And they shine in comparison. To those Ross stores, I always make it a point to ask for the manager to compliment the management and employees for a job well done. That goes a long way toward boosting their incentive and morale for even better efforts in the future. Hopefully this store can someday achieve such a lofty...
Read moreNot a pleasant experience! Myself and my girlfriend a few days ago came in and thought we could get our items cheaper due to an ad on the front of her receipt saying The 12" Spicy Italion and black forrest ham $4.99. When we arrived home we realized we were charged $5.99. My Girlfriend came in the next day and questioned the money difference and the clerk stated that we have never offered that price. He charged her $5.99 again. Two days later we both came in again with the receipts showing that it should have been $4.99. We both expected some compensation for what we think is justice..NO,..We are was told as "participation" varies, and then with another receipt "coupon", no expiration date either she is told that they do not honor that either as they stopped having those on sale. "Oh wow! I,..the customer should have known that! Another Wow! Participation varies but we see them on "your" receipts. So, now as we finally, supposedly have run our resources out with the "wrap" lady, She goes in and sees the "assistant Manager" She comes out, all of her early 20 something experience and goes directly to the register and we think she is giving us some money back. We see cash, hmmm. She did not introduce who she was and that certainly was an irritant. When I asked the cashier about what's going on she had no idea. When finally after insisting to talk to this assistant "manager" I called her on the fact that with my 25 years plus sales experience she could learn to introduce herself. When I question if she wants to learn this she states, quite foggy by the way,..."I guess so". As one would expect in this case the problem was not going away,.. (never saw the $$ again) and she says she will call the manager. She goes back into the "cauldron" and takes a few minutes more of our time. Let's see, it gas been about 15 min now. Thank God they are not called "In an out Subway! There may be a few accidents along the way. This is theb best that they would give us that night, (A phone call the next day) even though if they would have given us even 20% off. We would have taken it and had perhaps,.. perhaps a good meal. We ended yelling, .. walking out and the "assist" mgr screaming as I walk out. "At least you can give me my paper and pen back I bought with my own money" "Here, as I slammed it on the table, do a "table check" Talked to the manager the next day, he was professional and courteous and listened. He again reiterated that prices vary and that the sandwhiches in question are $5.99. Not even a $5.00 gift card offered....

I'm cheap & easy. I'm not ashamed. I have it tattooed on my lower back ;p
This Subway locaiton is under new management and had a 2 day 50% off everything promo. I fully disclose that I'm not much of a Subway fan, but a deal is a deal so here I was to redeem it.
Despite the 50% off promotion, the wait in line didn't take very long, as it was only 3 deep when I arrived. Plenty of employees were staffed to handle the influx of customers. Currently, I'm trying to reduce/eliminate wheat and grains from my diet, so I opted for a turkey/bacon/avocado spinach salad.
My thoughts? It was really good! Sliced turkey, bacon and creamy avocado with red onions, tomatoes, olives, cilantro, bell pepper, banana peppers, oil, vineger, salt & pepper - all on a bed of healthy spinach. I found it to be a light & satisfying dinner.
Service was friendly. I like making small talk with people, so I asked if it's been busy etc. The manager worked the register and she seemed enthusiastic about the promo turn-out. There are a few tables to sit and eat, which were mostly occupied by money-saving people like myself. Parking is in a private lot.
I think this visit has changed my view of Subway. It was the first time I had their sandwich as a salad and I enjoyed it. Large portions for not much money. Not a fancy deli, but this Subway has cheap prices and a convenient location, across the street from Cypress...
