Before I say anything else, I have to start with this: The hospitality and friendliness of the staff here is top notch. I did not catch the young lady’s name that processed our order, but she was nice, professional, inviting, easy to talk to, and if getting food was only about the reception I’d be giving this place 6 out of 5 stars. Unfortunately, it’s not. The food itself was very disappointing. We ordered a Rasta Pasta plate with oxtails, a jerk chicken plate, a side of cabbage and two sides of plantains. Our food was supposed to be ready in 20 minutes, but that turned into nearly an HOUR, but that’s a complaint for a different day. When I took my first bite of the pasta, it was pretty good—not the best I’ve had—but had a good flavor profile. It was on the good side of OK. I asked for medium spice and I think they nailed that. But my first reaction was that it was too salty. Not inedibly salty, but almost. And I like salt. I just don’t like heart palpitations. Sadly, my concerns were confirmed when my wife took a bite of her jerk chicken with rice and peas. First, the restaurant’s website said that on Saturdays the chicken was freshly grilled. This chicken had not even a hint of grilling, whatsoever. Never saw a grill. Not even a puff of smoke—at least judging from flavor. Second, it tasted more like it had been cooked in the oven instead maybe and heated up per demand in order to save money. Lastly and most importantly, it was impossible to actually eat! It was inedible. If you could Google a location to visit near the Himalayas, catch a flight there, hike into the mountains, discover a whole deposit of Himalayan salt, harvest it all, grind the whole mountain into granules and pour the entire salt mountain onto this chicken, it STILL would not make it as salty as it tasted today! We ordered from here because of their high reviews, not to get high blood pressure. We came here because of the hype, not to get hypertension. We have no intentions of visiting the “Upper Room” anytime soon. So for us, it’s a no. I’m currently at the grocery store looking for something I can use to hack the chicken to spread out the sodium and avoid an early trip to glory. And again, I really hate to leave a review like this because the hostess was 100. (She was sweet and the only reason I gave a 15% tip for takeout, which I normally don’t do) But if your service is better than what you’re serving, there has to be a breaking point eventually. I hope we just came on an off night and they’re really much better on a normal day. I’m sure they’re better than this! I hope they are and the high reviews weren’t just fluff. But this was our experience. This...
Read moreI live in Hilton Head SC, I visit my daughter in Carrollton quite often and I've been to this restaurant more than 4 times. Normally I don't have an issue but the last visit warrants a review to make other patrons aware of what's going on. I called in a pick up orer4 for an oxtail plate rice and peas with cabbage and a side of Haitian mac & cheese. My order was $39.53 which is ridiculous for 1 meal. I was charged $26.99 for the meal $3.99 for cabbage and $5.99 for the mac & cheese. I asked why am I being charged separate to add cabbage which normally comes with it, the employee told me the menu changed I re3quested to speak to the Supervisor and was told they weren't there. I called after arriving at my daughters house N/A (which was after 8pm Im sure I wasnt the only one trying to get through- that's money lost) then I call back again after about an hour & ask to speak to the Manager, I explained the situation and she apologized and told me that the employee should have offered me a smaller portion of rice & cabbage without additional cost she told me to send her a screen shot of the receipt & she would adjust it. I did so, still have it on my phone she never did. Understand that I make a conscience choice when I am in Carrollton to dine at your business. Your customers are your business without us you don't exist. I have access to a great Jamaican restaurant when I'm home so I can eat Caribbean food there. I'm deeply offended that you did not follow through with the offer you gave me over the phone to rectify the issue, professionalism matters where I...
Read moreThe waitress I had was amazing! It was her first day and her name was Leslie however everything else outside of that was horrible. Inaccurate descriptions of food, requested sauce on side of food and sauce was placed on top of chicken. My 90 year old mother literally choked for about 45 seconds trying to catch her breathe form the spice levels. My waitress brought my food and she immediately asked me if I wanted to speak to the owner because I was confused to see whole chicken pieces in a Rasta pasta dish. At the moment it took her a moment to come over, mind you there was only our table eating (my mom and I) and a couple whom were checking out. After waiting for her to come at this point I asked my waitress to bring a box for my food and to just make my mom’s food a to go order before she brings it out. While I’m boxing the food the owner approaches and ask how’s the food, that I clearly didn’t taste and I’m boxing up. Literally spent $80 buckets on food that wasn’t edible and wasted. $27 on an oxtail plate that my mom got 2 oxtails and a plate full of rice and peas. Overall, the waitress was amazing and attentive but the owner? The way she spoke to this waitress and did it in front of customers? I’d never return. Best of luck to them and hopefully it’s...
