After feeling sick the whole next day after eating here, I decided maybe my whole experience was more than an off day.
To start, there were several red flags before even ordering about how this experience was going to be and I should have listened to them. On a holiday weekend, the place was empty. I walked past several tables that all had food crumbs on the benches and on the floor, and settled for one that was "better." There not only was food crumbs on the floor and bench, but also a chipped plate and 2 dirty glasses on the table. The highchair they brought out was beyond gross, caked with old food and sticky.
Against my better judgement, we stayed. The water they brought had stuff floating in it. The lentil soup was steaming like it had been taken out of the microwave, not to mention it had completely separated and looked like bile, the taste not much better. The samosas were okay, but greasy. The Tikka masala at medium heat had a strange sweetness unlike any other Tikka masala dishes I've had. The extra spicy vindaloo was not extra spicy, watery, and tasted like it had sambal Chile paste in it. For extra flavor, the chicken had a slight soap taste to it. It was by far the worst vindaloo dish I've ever had. The yogurt for my kid was questionable at best. The best dish we had was the Naan. The fact that all of the food came out so quickly makes me think that, despite the restaurant being empty, a lot of food is preprepared.
To top it all off, the smell from the restroom almost made me vomit, and I opted not to use it.
I've had a lot of Indian food and was excited to try this place, but after both myself and the person I went with got sick and had this experience, it's safe to say we'll stick to the go to spots in Dallas. The photos in these other reviews look so much better than what we received and I'm sad we didn't get the experience others seem...
Read moreI am new to Indian cuisine, so I cannot attest to the authenticity of the flavors. However, after coming here 2 times, I did enjoy the food and service... until I encountered the conditions of their bathroom (the reason for the low score).
In regards to the food, I found it tasty, and the ingredients seemed fresh. I had the Tikka Masala most recently, and I was shook by how moist the chicken was. Previous reviews mentioned that this place makes their dishes sweeter, and I can definitely say that my dish was pretty sweet. It sounds like it's not supposed to be. Though, I didn't really mind and enjoyed everything I had.
The service was pretty good as well. They frequently refilled my water, food and beverage came out fast, and the staff was courteous. No complaints there.
So, in my last visit, I had to use the restroom, and I really hate to write about it here. I don't like leaving negative reviews in general. I respect people who run their own business, and I appreciate the people over at Royal. That being said...
I was really surprised at how filthy the bathroom was, especially because the rest of the restaurant looked acceptable and clean. Like, we're not talking a couple of missed cleaning sessions or "wear and tear." It looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a REALLY long time. Time enough for black rings to form in the bowl, blankets of dust and other debris on surfaces, a stale stench of urine, etc. This really killed any desire to return, at least until they get that sorted. I'm no neat freak, but.... Truly, it's unacceptable. I'm sorry.
If the bathroom looks this bad, it makes me wonder about the kitchen, which is hidden from sight.
That is my...

I recently visited Royal Indian Cuisine and Lounge with my sister and kids, and I must say, it was one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. From the moment we arrived, things started going downhill.
Firstly, our server forgot to place my order for the Butter Chicken with Naan, even though my sister and I both ordered the same dish. While my sister's food arrived promptly, I waited for an hour without any sign of my order. When I finally inquired about it, the server claimed that I had only ordered one Butter Chicken. It was frustrating to have to explain my order again and wait even longer.
After patiently waiting for another 30 minutes, I still didn't receive my food. When I asked the server about the delay, she simply replied that they were still making it, without offering any explanation or apology. I was beginning to lose my patience at this point.
Finally, I decided to cancel my order and requested the bill. To my surprise, the server brought over a credit card machine without even showing me the total. When I asked for a receipt, I discovered that I had been charged $47.00 for 2 naans, a Butter Chicken, and 3 mango lassis. As if that wasn't bad enough, the server had added a tip for herself of almost $7.00 without my consent. This level of dishonesty is unacceptable.
I wouldn't recommend anyone to dine at Royal Indian Cuisine and Lounge. The poor service, lack of communication, and the audacity to overcharge and add a tip without authorization make it clear that these people are running a scam. Consumers should be aware and avoid this establishment...
