My BFF & I wanted inexpensive KBBQ for lunch. By BFF, I mean my stomach.
My frenemy, my waistline, said "Don't! Don't go! We were doing so good!"
I replied "Screw you, waistline! I know who my real friends are!" ;p
Red Palace, recently opened & occupying the former location of Jang Soo Jang KBBQ
Wait for lunch was only about 5 mins. Red Palace has 3 KBBQ prices - $9.99, $13.99 & $17.99.
We went with the $9.99 KBBQ, which includes beef brisket, pork bulgogi, marinated chicken, beef & pork belly & pork steak.
Our growling stomachs meant we didn't waste time grilling up our meat.
The beef brisket & belly were the highlights for me. Lots of yummy fat on thin cuts of beef, lovingly dipped in salt & sesame oil before they're engulfed by me.
The pork belly, chicken & pork bulgogi were good, but I'm a brisket & belly guy. Keep sending me plate after plate of those two, and I'm all good.
Of course, you can't have Korean food w/o banchan, including miso soup, steamed rice/rice paper & salad.
Dessert will put a smile on your face - Thrifty ice cream (chocolate, strawberry & green tea). It was a close race between strawberry & green tea, but I'd have to say strawberry was my favorite.
Service was friendly & attentive. The staff didn't bat an eyelash at request after request for more meat & banchan. There is a decent amount of seating inside, with booths on the left and larger tables on the right. A private banquet area is in the back. Nothing says KBBQ like rap music on the speakers ;p Parking is in a private lot shared by Carrow's, Baskin Robbins etc.
Red Palace, I'm a fan! The wider selection of meat for the $9.99 KBBQ puts Mr. Lee's and Ma Dang Sae to shame. Plus, including the complimentary sides such as miso soup and the uber-delicious Thrifty ice cream are why I'm giving you 5 stars.
Looks like I need to stock up on elastic plants now! ;p

Read moreMy family and I have visited Red Palace BBQ many times and never ever again! We decided to meet a family member and their wife here for an early dinner at 3:30pm after raving to them about how great they were. Including my 14 yo daughter it was 5 of us. We waited to be be seated. We were asked twice in less than an hour if we were ready for our check. I said no and they still brought it to us on the 2nd time they asked. I asked if we were being asked to leave and the server said, "oh, no not at all. Would you like more meats?" We said sure. They brought us a huge plate of brisket and we said that's way too much. So they took it and brought back a small plate. In the middle of cooking it, the server came back and said, "I'm really sorry, but my boss said you guys are going have to hurry up and finish up because my boss said he has a party who reserved this table at 5pm." I looked at my watch and said, "it's 12 minutes to 5 and we've only been here about an hour and 17 minutes We're still eating and cooking our meat and you guys left us waiting over 15 minutes waiting for service and we only ordered meat 3 times if you include the 1st order you took when we started and this one that's cooking." He said, "it's my boss, sorry." We were shocked. He turned off the grill. My wife was in shock and said, "let's just pay the bill and get out of here." Looking over the bill, I noticed that they charged us a 15% gratuity for a party of 5 or more. I guess it's not really all you can eat. It's, all they say you can eat. The food is usually good here and we spend well over 2 hours each time we go. But after service like that, we'll never step foot into a place that treats their customers that way. We ended up walking over to Carrows for 30 more minutes to have some desert to finish catching up. Such a shame to treat paying customers the way the do...
