I’ve been coming to Charleston for over 30 years — first as a guest who fell in love with the hospitality, now mostly for business. Truthfully, the city has started to feel flat, hot, crowded, and a little contrived. Restaurants seem weary from the constant churn of tourism. But Hotel Richemond? It sparked something I didn’t expect. This place might just change how I feel about the Crescent City.
Booked last-minute and got a great deal. The hotel is new, clean, and absolutely deserving of its five-star feel. From the moment I walked in, the design caught my eye — elevated, thoughtful, and warm without being overdone. It blends historic touches (like an old bank vault door) with contemporary calm — lots of neutral tones, custom furnishings, and curated local art. It feels more like a beautiful private residence than a hotel.
The rooms are large and comfortable. Beds were medium-soft — just right — and the bathrooms were spacious enough for two people to get ready at the same time without bumping into each other. Water pressure in the shower was excellent. My room had a private balcony, which was a welcome touch.
Location is ideal — just off King Street. Walkable to Marion Square, the City Market, College of Charleston, Waterfront Park — all of it.
The restaurant, Two Bit Club, was a highlight. Vietnamese-inspired dishes with fresh, lively flavor. I sat at the bar for dinner and had a memorable meal. Bartender Charlie delivered first-class service — warm, present, and totally professional. The entire dining experience felt like a hidden gem in a city that’s become too predictable.
Charleston has changed a lot over the years — and not always for the better. But this hotel reminded me why I once loved coming here. Hotel Richemond is thoughtful, beautifully executed, and refreshingly different. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to stay a little longer — and maybe...
Read moreFrom the second I stepped into the hotel lobby I felt welcome. I stumbled upon this hotel while planning my trip to Charleston and it did not disappoint. I arrived before the 3pm check in time and to my surprise I was able to check in and get settled into my room right away. I booked two separate days under two separate reservations and the hotel staff asked if I wanted to combine the reservation into one so that I would not have to check out after the first night. I did have to get my key redone in order to get into my room on the second day as it did not let me into my room. This was not a big deal as the front desk staff were aware of my booking situation and immediately completed the process. |The staff was immediately available via text for any immediate needs. The staff were very responsive and would answer within a minute or two. The restaurant (Asian) on the first floor was very busy- must be very good. I was able to snag a last minute reservation on Sunday night, I however opted to go somewhere else. I stayed in the double queen room with a little outdoor patio- awesome aspect to enjoy. |The weather was a great change of pace as I am used to very humid weather. The location (off King street) was perfect as it is walkable to almost everything on Charleston. I was able to walk to Liberty square, the market, rainbow row and other must see places around. I would definitely recommend to others and will come back again in the future if I visit again. |I loved everything about my stay at this new quaint,...
Read moreBeautiful hotel with a great location but terrible experience. We stayed here for one night which started wonderfully. The hotel is beautifully designed and very clean. Things began to go awry when the fire alarm went off in the middle of the night. Not a huge deal, but it was false and we have a one year old so getting her back to sleep was a little bit of a nightmare. The next day we go out and I get a call telling me I need to get back to the hotel quickly because they need the room. Check out is typically at 11. I asked the front desk the day before if we could check out at noon and they said of course. We get back at 1145 and again are told we need to get our things and leave. Matthew at the front desk acknowledged that the person on staff gave us permission to check out at noon but no apologies for the abruptness or mistake. We try to go up to our room to grab our things as quickly as possible and our key card was disabled…. We eventually get in, grab our things, and are still out of the hotel at 11:52. When checking out, Matthew was short and rude. He did, however ask how our stay was and when I replied “alright” he said “great!” Not the level of service I expect from a hotel that markets themselves as luxury.
Edit: The rest of the hotel staff were lovely. Cleaning staff, valet staff and restaurant staff were...
