My husband and I went to Seoul Poke Bowl for lunch this afternoon, and while the food was overall delicious, we were left with more than a few concerns. Firstly, the two staff members were young and seemed to be lacking the necessary training needed for food service. One spoke at such a low volume that it was hard to hear their questions about the bowl they were building, and when I asked the other server what flavor the mochi special was, they said, “I don’t know. I’ve never tried that one, but I can ask.” Then never did, so I ended up not ordering it. I overheard them say the same thing to another customer who asked about the avocado roll and never gave any further explanation. Secondly, though not a big deal, the “sweet onions” were raw, cut into large chunks, and very strong where they’d typically be soaked to remove some of the harshness before being served. However, the main and most important issue is the lack of care for gluten and wheat intolerances. For some reason, only items in the sauce section of the menu are marked as gluten free when obviously things like bean sprouts and red cabbage should be as well, so when my husband who has a wheat allergy asked to clarify if the spicy tuna was gluten free, the server just said, “Umm, it should be” without any real certainty before scooping it into the bowl. It’s safe to say it was most definitely not. He’s now laying in bed with stomach pain, headache, tiredness, itchy throat, and the list goes on, which is what happens if he accidentally ingests wheat. He generally feels like this for several days, and given that it’s a Friday means his whole weekend will likely be spent in bed. Employees here should be better trained to address allergy questions and general menu questions. With so many people who are gluten free, celiac, or have other food allergies, it’s so dangerous to not have things clearly marked or at least have a staff trained to know what does and does not contain the top allergens. If you’re GF, I would not recommend this restaurant until...
Read moreI can't get enough of poke since trying it at the epicentre a month or so ago. The pokeatery at the epicentre gives you a little more meat in your bowl, BUT it also costs about $3-$5 more (depending what you get) for the same portion of food that you'd get at Seoul -- and compared to the bowl I had at Seoul Poke Bowl, it is DEFINITELY not worth those extra dollars.
At Seoul Poke Bowl, you REALLY get the best bang for your buck and every single thing I had in my bowl was delicious; I had eaten the whole thing before I remembered I had a sauce on the side. I didn't even need the sauce! I love that you have the option to get a sheet of nori paper AND rice as a base if you want it. I opted for no rice (because that's kind of what I love most about poke -- the fact that I don't HAVE to have rice unlike mossst sushi places...not all, but you get the point). The edamame was shelled and I bout lost it, I was so excited. The yellowtail tasted sooo fresh and cold (in that perfect-raw-fish kind of way), and with the edamame, carrots, some kind of vegetable that they have pickled and not pickled (both were good but I got the not pickled kind in my bowl), onions, and nori sheet, it was EASILY the best poke bowl I've ever had, and I've been to many other poke places in Charlotte now.
For the price AND quality of the food and service (the girls were really nice and helpful!), I won't be going anywhere else for poke from now on. I can't wait to go back!! :) Seriously. 10/10 would recommend to anyone who's trying poke for the first time or already loves it. You won't be disappointed!! There are soooo many options that would fit anyone's taste. My mouth is watering just thinking about it, so I'm gonna stop rambling and just...
Read moreSo I love this place Ive been going for years and usually the staff is so nice also! The food is always delicious even if it’s one of the more expensive spots for poke. Never really minded because the service is great. The woman who took care of me today was so incredibly rude for no reason though. I get the same thing every time I go and she told me today that the crab meat I got was considered a protein and I simply responded oh sorry I didn’t know and asked when they changed it. She got annoyed and said it’s on the board then pointed and sighed and like stared me down .. and spoke to me like I was so stupid for not knowing. And I said oh well when did it change and she said it had always been that way. So I continue to read the board and the exact same thing was under the premium toppings menu as well… I mentioned that and she stuttered and was like yes… it’s a premium topping and a protein. So I was like okay… well am I getting charged the extra dollar or 3. She was just sooo rude it caught me by surprise. I just let it go that I was charged the extra money.. 2 extra bucks isn’t an issu but the attitude for me was. No one was in there either so it’s not like she was busy… I imagin many people won’t be if she works the...
