This place is amazing. Went to Bella Chao for our buddy's 21st birthday, needless to say it was a great decision. As soon as we walked in we were greeted with the warm smell of Pasta. Our wonderful server took us to our reservation table and we say in the middle of the restaurant. My buddy Jack started out with a nice red. The wine was a little dry but good. The service was great. Strangely our server did not recommend that we get the pasta. The pasta didn't look to appetizing, so we got pizza and calzones. They were amazing. Personally I got the BBQ Chicken Pizza, I must say that it was splended. The crust was brilliantly baked with a nice char flavor. It was crunchy with a nice snap back in each bite. The cheese was amazing. Stringy and flavorful, nice coating for the main star of the dish. Barbeque Chicken. The sauce pairder perfectly with the shredded chicken bits. The calzone was HUGE. My friends split it and still weren't able to finish it. Definitely huge value. Maybe next time I'll be brave enough to try the pasta, but for know I'll walk away satisfied with a smile. Highly recommend the pizza and the Calzonee.

So the first thing that you notice is that when you arrive is that there is a hostess that will give you a card. You use that card to make your purchases for food and beverages. It's an awesome concept and there's also no waiters too. So there's a bar where you can get drinks and deserts and also a long service table with numerous cooks that makes your pasta ON THE SPOT! Our meal took about 5-10 minutes I had the Pollo Piccante with pappardelle noodle...this noodles are delicious and my dish is the one pictured. My wife got the Carbonara salmone. I would sincerely suggest getting the Pollo Piccante as the orange chili sauce is lovely but I am orange flavor bias so take that as you will. We had new York State cheesecake for desert and it was great as well. We paid at the hostess up front and that was it. Also, we weren't able to get network connection on your phone's but I think it's a good spot to go to because of that if you have someone that's on their phone during dates or food outings.

This used to be our go to place whenever we visited Charlotte for lunch (since the time this restaurant was named Vapiano). Before our last visit, we had visited one more time after it became Bella Ciao and even though it was not as good as Vapiano, the food was still decent. But this last visit was dissapointing and looks like this place is goind downhill. It is advertized as Italian but this time we didn't get any bread and we were asked if we wanted grated cheese on our dishes. On every decent Italian, cheese is grated in front of you but this time they did it in the kitchen and there was barely any cheese. But I could live with these two changes as long as the food is good. But this time it was really bad. I ordered penne alla vodka with chicken. Chicken was probably precooked, super dry and not mixed with the pasta and sauce. Pretty sure they put exactly the same chicken in every dish you ask them to add chicken.... Also ordered the kids pasta (spaghetti) with butter and cheese. There were a couple flakes of cheese and the spagghetti was in a bath of water and butter (see photo). Looks like they didn't strain spaghetti before adding all this butter and the pasta was not properly mixed. Our kid that loves pasta didn't have more than two bites. Atmosphere was OK, mainly because the place was empty (just 3 full tables and this is a big restaurant), probably for this reason the staff was bored and slow.

My visit to Bella Ciao was to pick up a to-go order. Never did I think I would experience "RACISM" at it's finest. When I left I was shaking and upset that people who are racist work in these establishments, and are allowed to treat individuals like myself in that manner. My experience went something like this: I walked to the counter and normally someone is there to greet you, but they weren't this time. I looked up and the guy at the bar addressed a couple that came in after me. When I walked over to him, he saw me coming and was walking away, so I hurried and asked if someone was handling this section where I was standing since I wasn't greeted, and with an attitude he responds that she is taking care of a to go right now. Which I saw a man sitting down waiting. Cool. She comes up and apologizes and asked did I want to be seated for 1 today and I told her I was there to pick up an order and gave her the name. Another guy walks up and speaks and I asked if he was the Manager. He said yes and without saying anything he already knew what I was trying to say. He said there was talks about the guy and that they are handling the situation. I told him with everything going on right now that he needs to be careful. Due to how I was treated today, my company will not be ordering from here anymore.

Concept is cool, but a little gimicky. To get food/drink, you get a plastic card (like a hotel room key) and tap it at the locations you pick up food. Ambiance is ok - little "italian" herbs all over for no apparent reason other than decor (was I supposed to use the basil as a garnish?? It wasn't clear.) They make pastas from scratch and the portions are huge and pretty tasty. Sauce ratio was a bit high, but definitely should have split with people instead of each of us getting our own serving. They have pizza, pasta, salads, and other entrees - all customizable. The bar is a standalone and offers alcoholic beverages, coffee, and desserts. Fountain drinks were in a different section. The bar section was understaffed for the amount of people waiting for drinks and it's silly because if you got a drink, you need to check out at that location instead of the main one. Once you are finished with your meal, you go to the main section again and checkout - can put multiple cards on a single check if needed. Reason I put less stars is because we all felt a bit sick after eating there (and there were a lot of us in the group ~9-10.)

TWAN WAS THE BEST! So attentive, patient, and kind. He doublechecked to make sure everything was perfect before submitting our order. We were in town for a conference but Bella Ciao is a place I’m familiar with. Their casual vibe leads one to believe that their food is basic. LIES! The food is an amazing way to grab some fast Italian without going to an authentic Italian restaurant. Also, don’t be fooled by the lunch menu— the portions are still HEALTHY! We said “if this is the lunch size I think we could have shared the dinner size.” I ordered the pesto pasta and added shrimp because DUH! My sisters ordered pizza and a creamy pasta with bacon. We all ordered salad as well. The citrus salad dressing was amazing. Everything was absolutely delicious. I wished that I could have tried the non-creamy pesto sauce but I don’t think I ordered it right! No problem, I was hungry so I probably wasn’t thinking straight— AND IT WAS STILL DELICIOUS!
