This is my first time writing a review, so be patient with me. I love food. People say that a lot, I know! Nonetheless, I love food. Tonight, after seeing the severe thunderstorm warnings we wanted to stay and eat at our hotel. But we’d already eaten two breakfasts at the in house place, and it was alright, but boring. And average. However someone in the group I was staying with decided we NEED to go out, and experience food. They just scrolled and found a place with good reviews and was nearby. When we approached Miss Ricky’s, I realized we had seen it earlier in the day headed back from the ‘L’. I snapped a picture of the red lips cause I thought they were fun, silly, my style. It was only drizzling when we walked in, but I was so entranced in my food that I didn’t even notice when the thunderstorms arrived! I ordered the oven baked lasagna, I enjoy lasagna a lot, but I wasn’t expecting what came to me. Medium sized dish, but something I couldn’t finish. But boy did I feel sad that I was too full for it. I don’t know how to describe food very well, but there’s this thing I do at the end of meals; since I don’t want to get up and make a fuss by running around the restaurant with all the energy I just got. I do a little dance in my seat. It’s more than safe to say I did this dance the second I put a forkful in my mouth. When we told the waiter, I was surprised to hear that some people even send this dish back!! Because of the béchemal or the texture wasn’t traditional lasagna. I could say that as well, but you might be as entranced as me to not even notice. I liked the light but filling feel of it.
Food never makes me emotional, I’ve never cried over food. (Unless I was a toddler with ice cream, of course.) but I may have shed a tear tonight. When the plates were taken away for dessert I felt suddenly sad. I couldn’t control it. My food was amazing. I wish I ate more till I got sick if I’m being honest.
And the tiramisu!! It did come out a few minutes late, and after the rest of my group got their desserts; as you can see my mother even tried to steal the first bite from me even when she ordered nothing and said she was full. This was amazing. I don’t smile truthfully and honestly from pure happiness enough, but Italian food like this, this makes it...
Read moreWas in Chicago for the Marathon. I stayed at the hotel next door. Went into the diner twice. Friday Morning and Monday morning. Had the Churro French toast and Eggs Benedict. The food was great. The French toast probably the better of the 2 options I had.
The biggest difference was the service. On Friday morning, the waiting staff were prompt, courteous, attentive and took an interest. I got a free refill of Coffee during my brief time.
Conversely, the Monday morning, despite being no more busy than Friday, I was left waiting for ~10mins to be spoken to, much less furnished with a menu. (Apparently the paper menu I was given on Friday was an anomaly and I needed to scan the QR code on the table.) People that arrived after myself were served before me. My coffee took a further 5 mins to arrive, when the food did arrive after another 10mins of being sat at a table. I did not have any utensils to actually eat it with. No free refill was offered. The bill when it came was wrong (With hindsight, I wish I hadn't mentioned it!) And when I did leave there was no acknowledgement.
It seems that how you come away from Miss Rickys will depend entirely on who was working on the day. I'd have given 4/5 for the Friday and only 2/5 for Monday. Hence the 3/5...
Read moreI want to start by saying that I really wanted to like this place. The atmosphere is nice and my friend and I were seated right away. Here comes the problems: first, there where two of us but they only brought one menu. We work up the street and came for lunch so I didnt have a ton of time to wait and track someone down, so we just streched over the table and shared. I am going to spare you and the little details that were not great and get down to the nitt griity. NOTHING was good. the drinks, a watered down no flavor bloody mary and one of their cocktails, a fruit loop drink that just tasted like dirty water with chunks of yogurt in it where both bad. I thought, well maybe I am being to hard and the food will be better...nope. Neither my friend and I finished our food. I was actually forcing myself to eat it and then realized it just wasnt worth it. I have had better food at diner. It was really just that bad. I had a ruben eggs benedict. The hollendaise sauce was flavorless and thin like they were streching it. They also had what tasted like boiled onions and this was all on burnt soggy bread. It actually makes me a little sad that I have to write this, but it is my honest opinion. This is acually one of the worst meals I have...
