UPDATE: SUNDAY, MARCH 12, 2023, 12:46PM: I cannot think of any changes. The food is still good, the prices still reasonable, the service remains very good. UPDATE: SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 12, 2022, 2:41PM: It is refreshing to see some eateries continue to have staff who wear face masks when serving the public. Also, since the food is made to order, guests know their food shall be extra fresh and super delicious. If BJs raised their prices, I could not tell; but even if they did, the quality of the food and the service remains super fine. UPDATE: SUNDAY, JUNE 12, 2022, 7:57PM, ET: I was at BJs yesterday, Saturday, June 11, 2022. Specifically, for breakfast. It is refreshing to still see staff members wearing face coverings, and wearing them correctly. Of course, the food remains fantastic, the services remains wonderful and the prices remain reasonable. UPDATE: Monday, March 28, 2022: Every time I visit Beacon, I go to BJs, at least once. The food is always good, and so is the service. I AM always happy to dine at this restaurant. Oh. My. GODS! The food here is PHENOMENAL!! Brenda, the owner and head chef cooks with LOVE!!! Also, my first time there, I asked one of the counter people what something was; his reply, "It's the best thing in the world: banana pudding.". You know I bought a container! The fish n chips is super good (and this coming from someone who does not like seafood but ate it like he lives for it); my table manners were so bad, but I had purchased to go, and nobody saw me make a mess of my fingers, face, and chin. So far, everything I have eaten there, or to go has been super beyond delicious! I cannot wait to return!!

Every time I visit this soul food gem, there’s one thing you can count on, I’m walking out with two cakes: the Chocolate Marble and the Lemon Cake. They’re my absolute favorites and have become a non-negotiable part of every visit. The Chocolate Marble is rich, moist, and swirled to perfection, with a flavor that feels like a warm hug. The Lemon Cake? Bright, tender, and just the right amount of tangy, it’s pure comfort in every bite. These cakes are the sweet soul of the menu, and I can’t leave without them! Ever since I’ve had their cakes I no longer order from anywhere else…

Such a great local restaurant that's been around for 45+years now! Brenda the owner was so nice; she was very attentive and offered us a free slice of cake while we waited for our food, and didn't charge us for the extra piece of cornbread that came out from the kitchen. We waited almost an hour for the food, but it was very good. My oxtail dish was fall off the bone soft and the sides were very yummy. My partner's chicken and waffles was also pretty good! The service is slow because all the food is made to order. A great place if your looking for homemade style soul food!

Before reading this review go and read all the reviews with one star then come back and read my review. I loved on these people for almost 20 years!!!

I have been supporting this business for almost 20 years. During that time most of my interactions were with Miss Sims. Brenda her daughter is old, miserable, tired and fights with customers. She communicates poorly and with disrespect. I have ordered cakes, desserts, pies, and dinners, from the restaurant in the past. When it’s time to pay Brenda boldly has you wait bet 25 and 45 minutes to check out. (Did I forget to mention that at times it takes 60 minutes to get the food?) This time Brenda came to the register to do the transaction with me and walked away back into the kitchen and left me holding the bill at the register. This happened after another customer and myself waited 25 minutes for Brenda to come out of the kitchen to check us out. I left and called Brenda, I explained to her l would be back with the payment for the food because I had an appointment. Brenda decided to call the Beacon police and make a report of theft of service. After all those years that is what she did!!!! Brenda has my number in her phone. Instead of calling me she gave it to the police. Both her and her mother know me very well!!! I returned to the restaurant and paid Brenda for the bill of $15.69 as I had promised. I only found out about the police report the day after when an officer called me. That is when I told him I had gone back and paid her $16 in cash.

Now let’s talk facts about the conditions inside the restaurant lately. When you enter the restaurant there is some kind of foul smell and it’s not food. The bathrooms haven’t been cleaned properly since the year of the flood. One lady said Brenda needs help and Brenda snapped that there is a sign in the window asking for help. Over the years I have spoken to people who used to eat at the restaurant and more than one person (from the Beacon community that have been in Beacon a long time and are still there) said they don’t eat there. I said why it’s a black-owned establishment? I was told the food is not good and they are crooks. I found the food expensive and it doesn’t alway taste exactly the same, but I never saw it that way. I don’t know maybe I put supporting my people first when it should have been last. However, what it would seem is people were upset at the way they were treated. The workers that pass through the restaurant are many. I’m quite sure if you ask them about Brenda the complaint would be the same. Many times you would see people walk off the street into the kitchen. When I think about it there is no way two seniors over 70 years old can make all the food they offer from scratch even with the little help they have. No way!!! I supported them solely on the fact that it was own and operated by two black women like myself and that was a BiG mistake!!!!

This is my review of BJs Restaurant and BrewHouse. Please be mindful that although they have alcohol it is not a Brewhouse.

Had a very bad experience with them last night. So bad I won't be going back or ever ordering from them again. My husband and I have both eaten at the restaurant and ordered takeout from BJ's in the past. The food was usually good, the service decent and no major problems. They recently renovated the restaurant and now even though it looks better it's gotten worse. My husband ordered the fish dinner,I ordered the baked chicken dinner. I was asked what piece of chicken I wanted. I specifically ordered the chicken breast. That is what I eat,I don't eat chicken leg or thigh. At no point was I informed that they were out of chicken breast. When my husband picked up our meals, again nothing was said about them substituting a leg/thigh for the breast I ordered. When we got home and opened it up I immediately called the restaurant. They were in the process of closing so they let the phone ring and ring. I hung up called back. This time after several rings, someone answered, said they were closed and I'd have to call back in the morning. I quickly explained the situation. No apology was offered. No offer of a discount on my next meal,no ANYTHING. When I asked why I wasn't informed of either the lack of chicken breast or the substitution, the person on the phone said there had been a "breakdown in communication." Yes,and obviously a breakdown in customer service and business practices as well. One more thing: hubby and I both ordered a slice of cake,he got coconut,I got lemon. Whereas they used to give you a decent sized slice, now you get a paper thin skimpy slice. I guess they are paying for the renovations by skimping on portions. Between the bad service, lack of apology, lack of attempt to rectify the situation and small portions, never again will they make a dime off...
