On Saturday 09-02-2023 at approximately noon, I decided to visit K&W (Concord) for lunch. Years ago I frequented K&W for meals, but had not visited in a long time. I frankly had heard that K&W had become quite expensive. I had not heard about the decline in K&W food quality unfortunately until after my Saturday meal and anxiously viewed current K&W’s reviews.
On arriving, I did notice on this beautiful Saturday at lunch time there were only approximately 5 cars on the large parking area (should have been a warning to me).
The following is a review of my experience upon entering K&W for my lunch. It was not a good experience. I viewed the foods available and chose the mayonnaise slaw, macaroni and cheese, cream potatoes, hamburger steak with onions, and water. Many of the other food choices simply did not look appetizing. Most appeared dry or as if they had been on the serving line for an extended period. My intention was to choose what I refer to as a simple plate lunch. Wow, I surprised when I arrived at the cash register. What I thought was a simple plate lunch was $14.19.
The slaw per my taste was uneatable (seemed saturated with vinegar or something similar), the macaroni and cheese was dry and bland, the cream potatoes were merely okay, the steak was overcooked, and the good onions were overshadowed by a multitude of the thin slimy outer peelings from the onions. Needless to say I did not enjoy nor eat most of this meal.
I simply got up and left. On leaving, I found myself wishing I had a cup of warm water and a tooth brush to brush the packed layered feeling of grease from the roof of my mouth. Needless to say, I will never visit K&W again.
According to Google, this once great Winston-Salem, NC based cafeteria is now owned by a company called Falcon Holdings Management the parent company of Piccadilly...
Read moreI have been eating here since it was in Carolina Mall up until the last few years this was my favorite place to eat. I have always ate the same exact thing vegetable plate. 2 mashed potatoes with gravy (the only place besides KFC that I will eat gravy on my potatoes) Mac n cheese and green beans with a biscuit. My family did come on the weekend towards 7pm. Roast Beef is what my husband and mother have always ate and it's very sad that it's only on select dates but you would think the weekend would be one of those. This place has gone down hill and fast when they threatened a few years ago to close I was one of those who wanted to keep it opened but I'm very surprised and sad to say but I don't see how it's still here. Small selection now of even the vegetables to pick from but the main meats again can't believe you don't have them anymore THERE was hardly any bread to pick from and the selection you could tell had been sitting out probably from the start of dinner. At the end when you now fill your own cups up should have been another red flag I loved coming up and picking the drinks already made (this was part of the K&W atmosphere. Not to mention we were basically the only family or ones eating on a weekend evening. Very sad and disappointing I didn't even finish my potatoes and this is a I scrap the bowl usually. I hope there's a huge change if not I don't see it getting...
Read moreI don't usually do reviews but for the past two months I have been eating lunch at K&W cafeteria in Concord. I have been blown away by the food, service and overall cleanliness of the establishment. One of my favorite TV Shows of all time is "Cheers". My favorite part of the theme song is, "you wanna' go where everybody knows your name" and this is a close to the show as I can get. Let's Start with the warm, friendly host Olivia J, from the moment I arrive Olivia J. has greeted me with a warm smile and has already informed me of the specials of the day. Her warm southern hospitality is infectious throughout the restaurant. She makes me feel at home. Justin B. and Tyler M. are delightful food servers, they are fast, and they always use gloves, they have learned exactly what I like so I don't even have to ask. Ashia C. is also very sweet with a warm voice and a friendly smile. Like i said, I've been eating here almost every day for the last two months and it feels like home. Big Shout out to Chris C. who is the general manger. He hired these fine folks and he keeps it all together. I love the food and i certainly love the people. Go get you some good...
