Max's Kitchen — Restaurant in Cresson

A little bit of Kansas City BBQ Heaven brought right here to us in Cresson, Texas! Max can hold his own against some of Kansas City's top pitmasters. If you've been to KC, you've heard of Danny Edwards, Oklahoma Joe's/Joe's Kansas City, Jack's Stack, Q39...the other's. Well, Max is at their level.

You will find brisket that has been properly trimmed (no big chunks of fat) slow smoked for hours to render the remaining fat down. Tender, smoky and properly rubbed down with a great combination of BBQ spices, this is not your oven-baked Texas brisket.

The pulled pork is tender, moist and succulent. Again, it has been properly rubbed down and slow-smoked to give that deep flavor that's expected and desired. It's nothing like the dry, bland, flavorless pulled pork you've had from other purveyors.

The sauce is smoky and sweet with a bit of a spicy kick and just a hint of vinegar, not a copycat sauce but it is a real KC type sauce.

Portions are large, there's a lot of meat on these sandwiches. The regular fries will feed three people...in fact, they just did.

Prices are more than reasonable for the high quality and large quantity you will find heaped upon your plate. (Max...don't take this as an excuse to raise your prices!! ;) )

Six stars really...this is a can't miss place if you love...

These burritos are so huge, you have to eat them with two hands....and take about 20 bites. It took me 10 minutes to eat one....and I am a fast eater. And, the taste? Out of this world! I bought one to try it out; then bought three more to take with me on the road. I tell you, this is the best burrito making establishment I have ever encountered. I travel on the road about 100,000 miles per year; and I have ate at who-knows-how-many establishments.....and this one, at Max's, is A-1, top-of-the-list, easily. Again, I have never had such a delicious burrito as long as I can remember. And, the price was very good. Thank you very much, for all you do, and what you provided this stranger passing through. Amazing!!!! This is the absolute BEST hidden gem in Texas! Local secret and the owners are outstanding! In my humble opinion, they are way UNDER priced for the amount of food they give you! In all our years going, they know us by name and we have never had anything but the best. Their food is always consistent, which is extremely rare!
