First, I would like to say their shrimp and grits are fantastic. I have attached photos. My g'son ordered the burger (I know, at a seafood spot what do you expect). The bun was so dried out and hard he broke and peeled the crust part of the bun off to expose just the bread part. The burger was very hard and dry and he didn't eat quite half. The biggest issue was my husband's boil. We've never had one like it....severly covered in a thick creamy, super spicy Alfredo style sauce, I wish I had taken pictures of that. So, with the shrimp needing peeled under this super excessive, thick, sticky, creamy sauce it was too disgusting to try to peel them, so they all went uneaten. He did eat the sausage. This same sauce smothering the corn wasn't good at all and the whole dish was full of loose corn silks. The sauce did complement the upcharged sausage and the potatoes, which is all he ate of his own plate. I do want to say when you use boil in your name, you should have, at a minimum, a good boil. The server, never once asked how anything was, even with them turning in the this big portion of the uneaten food we ordered. My husband ate the other half of my dinner that I couldn't eat, because I was full. The baked potato was not "done" enough for anyone to eat, it was very under cooked. I have to think these servers are trained not to ask how something was or what was wrong when they see you have hardly touched any of your food and tell them no when they offer a box. We never speak up, unless asked. Even then we simply offer constructive comments and never accept financial credits....but, you want them to at least ask. My food was good enough to warrant a trip back, but I know he will not go back. I'm sure there is plenty of good food on their menu, but I don't feel it's their boil or burgers.

I could tell they had some new staff they were training, and because of that the atmosphere felt tense with the on going training of what felt like new to serving people. The manager repeatedly had to correct the hostess on her seating decisions. The hostess this evening actively sighed upon us entering the restaurant and then proceeded to sit us in the worst spot of the restaurant after analyzing the seating chart for an unnecessary amount of time, given that there were evidently open tables. Alas the hostess proceeded to seat us by the door, away from the live music in an area that was less decorated, we thought maybe they were expecting a large influx of people or maybe had reservations but learned that she struggled to follow the managers directions as he spoke with her multiple times regarding this matter throughout our time being here. The hostess continued to sit everyone away from the live music ( epic fail) in an area where it felt like overflow seating. To make matters worse, our server missed bringing our appetizer, and when he brought the boil out he didn’t bring any trays, gloves, or bibs. He didn’t offer to correct or compensate for this error. We had to sit and wait with the food infront of us for a few minutes until he came back with the proper equipment to tackle the boil. It was our first time at this restaurant, and despite it looking like a fun atmosphere from the outside I would recommend a better hostess ( the first point of contact), and to include more potatoes and veggie fixings into the boil as it was quite sparse despite mixing in 3 orders within one boil. Hoping for a better experience, but seems like they need some support with their staff.

The atmosphere here is laid back and comfortable. Seating is at booth style tables and benches. There is a bar and outdoor seating along with indoor seating. The menu is varied, although heavy on the seafood side. But that is certainly to be expected in a Gulf Coast town. Everyone in my group seemed to like their meals. I was a little disappointed with mine. I ordered a pound of shrimp with potatoes and corn. They must have weighed the shrimp portion with the potatoes and corn rather than before adding them. I had only 21 shrimp and, back home, in AZ, I get about 24 to 26 shrimp for a pound serving at the local "boil in bag"- even with the corn, potatoes, and sausage added. Also, these shrimp were a little overcooked. Just a hair chewier past tender. But, like I said before, everyone else loved their meals, so mine was probably a fluke. I will have to give it another try when I am visiting the area. And be sure to visit the restroom! The sinks are cut down kegs, and I am told that the men's room has keg urinals.

The Boil Yard is a must if you are in the Crystal River, FL area! The restaurant was clean, the food was delicious and the staff is very friendly and helpful! My wife and I were visiting the area and we found the Boil Yard. The menu is what first attracted us and the service is what kept us! Mariah is an awesome waitress! She was very patient, especially since this was our first time. She reviewed the menu which she knows by heart and went over the different types of oysters and the boil options. Needless to say, you have to try the boil! Oh my gosh! It was delicious! I had the shrimp and clams boil with sausage- out of this world! I really recommend the backyard boil sauce- it was rich and flavorful but it didn't overpower the shrimp and clams. The boil includes corn and potatoes- normally, I would skip but with the backyard boil sauce they were fantastic. Overall, the Boil Yard is a must visit! When you arrive, ask for Mariah if you are looking for knowledgeable and friendly service!

Seafood “boil” is kind of a loose term here. I expected something nice and warm, buttery, saucy… my whole dish was a set of dry snow crab legs, an ear of corn, 3 potatoes, a roll and a lemon slice with a side of sauce. Yes, I asked for ‘the sauce on the side’, but didn’t think a seafood boil would come without any sort of butter or anything?! For the price (starting at $45 for snow crab based on our receipt, which isn’t listed on their menu, btw), we could have had a MUCH more enjoyable plate of crab legs just about anywhere else, and my son said the hamburger tasted like charcoal. All their condiments were generic Sysco food products and the butter wasn’t real butter, it was a greasy soy-based butter-like sauce. My party of 4 ate an okay (but not anywhere near worth the cost) meal of 3 snow crab boils and a hamburger with 2 very small appetizers for $225, not including the tip. At least the food was cooked alright. That is the only reason for the second star. We will not be returning.

I like grouper sandwiches. I’ve eaten great grouper sandwiches before however, this one was just OK. Most of the times I get it fried, however, this time I decided to go with the blackened grouper. It may have just been the sack that I requested the grouper blackened instead of fried, but it wasn’t as good as I expected. The fries were great, and the portion was much bigger than I could eat. The iced tea was great. So overall the food service and atmosphere were good. I would come back again and try something else. Next time. I’ll probably try the boils.
