This review is more specifically about our experience with our server, Monica. I felt like I was on an episode of Larry David’s comedy hit on HBO -Curb Your Enthusiasm. There was an episode where he had a similar experience
I work in hospitality and I had been awake for over 24 hours having worked overnight Christmas Eve — then doing Christmas with the family, friends, then working overnight again. I knew that I would be extra sleepy when I got off work so I had my mother drive me in my own car.
After work I was STARVING. I usually go to Taco Joint. It was the weekend and they weren’t open yet. I was ready to hit a sleep wall but food was what I needed.
We walk in and are quickly greeted. There is an aroma of freshly ground coffee in the air. And had I not been so ready for bed I surly would have partaken. The atmosphere was clean, and friendly. The host has us sit wherever we wanted. We were the first ones there.
We sit down and Monica, our server comes by and asks if we would like a strawberry lemonade or coffee to start. “No thanks, we both said.” Because I was sleepy and coffee, sugar, or caffeine was the last thing on my mind. I wanted food.
After we declined Monica audibly scoffed. My mom said “did she just scoff us?” And yes, in fact, Monica scoffed at us for our beverage order. This set the tone for the whole experience. She made a sound like she was annoyed that we were not purchasing a beverage today. She must of thought ‘guess, I’m not getting a huge tip.’ She wasn’t far off. See the breakdown at the end.
After Monica scoffed us she came back and asked if we were ready to order. I got the breakfast mac-n-cheese with a sunny side up egg and my mom ordered the eggs Benedict. The food came out relatively fast and piping hot. It was great actually. It was delicious. We were the only ones there so why wouldn’t it come out fast, right!?
I could have used some hot sauce for my mac but Monica never came back. It was annoying because I was rubber necking for at least 2 minutes after the food came trying to get her attention.
We ate relatively fast and were ready to go. I wanted to put a TOGO in and We could see our server Monica talking to the morning crew about her Christmas. We were waiting, and waiting, and waiting. Only guests in the entire restaurant but I felt like the BAZARO-WORLD energizer bunny. Instead of going and going we were waiting and waiting and I was about to pass out after the delicious Mac-N-Cheese food coma I put myself in. But I just kept waiting. Must have been 8-10 minutes of waiting after we were done and not checked on.
Finally Monica comes by with the check, doesn’t ask if we need anything else. I was going to order some food TOGO for my sister but that window had come and gone. She tried to walk off after dropping the check but I was ready with my card probably with a look of complete distain on my face from being profiled as a non-good tipping guest, poor service, attitude, and overall she made what could have been an excellent experience, one that will count as a strike. At least for me.
When the check came back there was a Thank You written on the check but I was not invited to return. I was not thanked verbally. TIP: Your customers are people that keep your business going. If you Treat them like you want them to be there and want them to come back they will take good care of you over and over. It’s actually common knowledge.
Bill: $29.77 Should have got: $6 Would have got: $8-$10 (with proper steps of service and attitude, also I love to be sold so could have been more plus the Togo I never put in)
What I wrote: ONLY $4 On the way out I gave a bus boy $5 He was so appreciative and he looked like he was working hard.
Is this review kind of Tacky: yes Do I ever take the time to write reviews that are negative like this? No - it was a hard fail for me
Will I go back...
Read morePeople of color do not go to this establishment! They are incredibly racist and very rude. I have never been to an establishment before that has not had open seating at the bar area or if it's not open seating, they at least tell people it's not open seating but that's not the case as this place does have open seating. I have come to that conclusion based off the fact that the two white women who were holding a seat for their friend to join them, were not bothered nor harassed when doing the exact thing I was doing. I sat down at the end of the bar where no one else was sitting. There were three open seats in a row. I was sitting on the last seat, and I put my purse in the seat next to me, and there was still a third seat open. No customers had come in and asked me if they could sit there, no one was bothering me about the seat, except for the people that worked there. I was told that they do not seat incomplete parties. Well, if it's bar seating, you're not seating me and I'm going to have a separate tab from my friend that was joining me anyway, so please elaborate to me how me holding that seat for my friend was a problem. My original waiter continued to harass me to the point where he became annoyed, and walked away from me mid sentence, in which at this time I proceeded to slightly raise my voice so that he could hear me as he was walking away from me rudely. The "manager", a white cis male then approached me, and said, why are you yelling at my staff? I said excuse me, but I'm not yelling at your staff. Your staff rudely walked away from me as I was talking to him. I proceeded to say the white women at the end of the bar who saved the seat for their friend were not bothered about the seat they were saving and he said oh what does this have to do with race? Let's not do that... Excuse me, but you do not get to dismiss my experience in this moment. This place is disgusting and I will never recommend or send anyone else there again. If I had not ordered my bottle of Prosecco before all of this occurred, I would have walked out. There are plenty of great brunch places around Dallas do...
Read moreThis particular location closed at 3 p.m. we arrived at 2:38. We immediately asked the manager if they were still sitting people for dine in. He assured us they were and showed us to our seat on the patio. It took almost 20 minutes to get our menu and drinks. So by this time it's closing time we haven't ordered our food yet and we were getting the vibe from everyone that they wanted us to leave. Except for the manager. But he could have helped out more than he did. We had to ask a busboy if we needed to order inside or if they were going to send a server out. The manager could have taken or drink orders but he didn't instead a server came out eventually but by this time we had been there almost 20 minutes. We felt rushed the whole time now mind you if they had gotten us our drinks and taking our orders faster we would have been ordering well before the 3 p.m. closing time. Overall the food tasted old the coffee was very stale and it was just a very poor subpar experience from beginning to end. I had wanted to go to this restaurant for quite some time and almost left when it took 15 to 20 minutes to get our menus and drink orders. In retrospect we should have left before ordering. It obviously would have made the staff happier and we would have gotten better food and better service at probably anywhere else including the Jack-in-the-Box drive-thru. I understand management may I see this and try to reach out to me. I would encourage you to instead use your time to pass along this information to your staff. Because this is one customer that you will never see again no matter if you offer me a free meal a refund or...
