Duchess — Restaurant in Darien

The employee said there was an error in our order coming through because we ordered on the self service kiosk and it took over half an hour to make some eggs and a vending machine smoothie. We were in a tremendous rush and we had an important event out of state to get to which is why we came here instead of a sit down diner, when I asked about it they didn’t even offer to refund and let us leave since we had to go, since they were already making the food. I expressed we really are in a rush to get somewhere. The whole point of this kind of establishment is to offer fast food service. If I want to wait this long I’d go to a diner or a real restaurant. This is ridiculous and we ended up being late to an important event because we had to wait for food we had already paid for. We’ve been coming here forever but we will not be giving Duchess our money again. If your self service kiosk doesn’t work, why do you allow customers to use it and order through it? I am never coming back here and I recommend customers who are looking for fast service to not come back here either unless you want to wait over half an hour for some eggs and a vending machine drink. If you go through the drive thru- GOOD LUCK. The Spanish girls in the back laugh while taking your order. I ordered a steak and cheese wrap. No onions. Heavy on the cheese. It took an hour. Let me tell you why. First when I ordered the little Spanish girl is rushing me and not 💰 my attention to the details of my order okay come to the front. Like I like them to repeat my order so that before I come to the front and pay I know they got it accurately. They gave me a wheat wrap with onions and no extra cheese after I paid for extra cheese. Came back. I didn’t ask for wheat wrap and I asked for no onions and extra cheese which you guys charged me for. They made it a second time. But no extra cheese and wrap was wheat. All they had to do was say they were out of white wraps. No communication and no quality control. Had to come back again because I did t want wheat and I wanted extra cheese. They made my steak wrap over AGAIN. This is the third time now. Because they were laughing while I was taking my order being very rude and didn’t seem interested in wanting to even provide quality hospitality. Smh. This place sucks. Don’t waste...

Think of this place as more of a diner that makes food fast, rather than a fast food joint. Food is made to order.

They have Coke my-way machines. Comparatively inexpensive menu with plenty of options. Great place for picky eaters. There are "Impossible" options and great salads available for vegetarian meals as well. Meat eaters have their pick of bacon, burger, chicken, pastrami, turkey, veal options. Hot and cold sandwiches and wraps. Chicken nuggets, fish and chips, (chicken or veal) parmesan, and tuna. Be sure to check for specials on the side board by the register. The last time I went, they had chopped steak, marinated chicken breast, and about 4 other specials listed. Appetizers like cheese sticks, onion rings, mac n cheese bites, and fries are available.

Davids brownies/cookies/pies, milk shakes, fried oreos, and more can be found on the dessert menu.

My pick is the pastrami and swiss sandwich. If you like bacon but need to skip the fat or the pork, this sandwich is for you.
