We hired Dayton Catering for my daughter’s wedding reception based on a friend’s recommendation. We could not be happier with them and with Rachal, the catering director. I can not express enough how delicious the food was. I have never had a meal at a wedding that was even enjoyable, but I ate every bite in spite of the fact that I was super busy chatting and walking around. It was so good!!! So many people commented on it. The salad was a particular favorite in those comments, but I heard people talking about all of it!. The price was very reasonable. Rachal’s communication leading up to the event was stellar. She even invited us to visit and taste all the options before setting the menu. And even though she has served at that venue multiple times, she joined us at our walk through with the other vendors. At the event, their staff was super professional, polite and friendly. They did a fantastic job of serving, bussing the tables and keeping things moving smoothly. The appetizers were also delicious, and I have to say I’ve never had a deviled egg that tasted any better than the one I had that day! What a perfect intro to southern traditions for our 50+ guests from the West coast! The tiny details were just so far above any expectation I could have had: the lemons in the water dispenser, the fanned-out stacks of cocktail napkins, the extra decorations on the bar and dessert tables, all of these things just took it all up to the next level. I am sure that as I communicated back and forth with Rachal during the months leading up to the wedding, she must have told me that all these things would happen, but I didn’t really have any understanding of what that would be like, and when the event arrived and they just swooped in and took care of everything, I was just genuinely surprised and thrilled. They truly made our reception a wonderful event. And when they left, you couldn’t even tell there had been a reception. They left everything perfectly clean and tidy, and the leftovers were packed neatly and stacked in the fridge for us! We highly recommend Dayton Catering without reservations, they...
Read moreI've lived in the area for over 30 years and never knew this place existed! My husband and I have been on the search for a great steak in or near Harrisonburg for quite some time and have not had any luck until we came across the Dayton Tavern! I searched online, read the reviews and decided to give it a try. We both had the ribeye cooked medium. The steak was to die for!! Not a drop of steak sauce needed because the flavor in each bite was awesome! I had the salad and brussel sprouts which were good, only 6 tiny brussel sprouts along with some red peppers and carrots - nothing like the great sprouts at Jimmy Madison's (a must try!!). Hubby had a baked potato and the red potatoes - again, nothing to write home about but good. The prices on the online menu do not reflect the actual price on the menus in the restaurant, so expect to pay a bit more. The ribeye was $25 with two sides. The steak alone was worth every penny. Since it is a little pricey (over $80 after beer and cider and an appetizer added on), we'll probably only go here on special occasions or when I'm desperate for an excellent steak (I think the latter will happen more often). Thanks to everyone for their reviews - I wouldn't have tried this...
Read moreMy wife, two daughters, and our great friends (who sneakily picked up the tab), had brunch this morning. Everything about this little spot is fantastic! We were met with friendly smiles and salutations. Our large party was promptly seated, even though they were quite full. Our drinks were never less than half full, and the servers were very attentive to all of our needs. The food? Incredible!! I had the country fried steak breakfast. HUGE portion of meat! It was perfect, after a longer than normal Saturday night of Kentucky Derby imbibing.. My wife had the seafood wrap. It was loaded with delicious shrimp and crabmeat. She hasn't stopped talking about it. Our friends both had the scratch made sausage gravy with 2 biscuits and an egg. I believe that they would agree that 1 biscuit would have been plenty. Our children had biscuits, eggs, and breakfast meats. They went away happy as well. I cannot say enough about Dayton Tavern, and we will be visiting again, soon! The next time we are going for dinner and I will be trying one of their aged Ribeyes! Thank you for a...
