Denver | Yelp's Top 100 Really Lives Up to the Hype

I went here for restaurant week keep that in mind. Food was plated very well. Colors and arrangement were elaborate and bright. I ordered a vegetarian and chicken dish. Both had very little seasoning and the vege enchilada was bland and soft with the main flavor being carrot without any seasoning. For dessert, I tried tres leches (visually appealing but poor gritty texture) and chocoflan (tasted like normal flan with Hershey syrup dunk and drizzle). The service was extremely fast and accurate. were friendly. The dining room had roughly ten different styles of lighting, 1/4 of which were flickering at different rates. If I came back to Cap Hill for brunch, I would surely give this spot another try, but the restaurant week menu was a big miss. The pictures on the menu looked very appealing.

First of this isn't your typical burrito joint. If you go I recommend you order from their variety of dishes. The Tampiqueña plate was awesome, skirt steak with a slaw, black beans, and rice served with warm corn tortillas, the meat was tender and moist. several in our party had "tacos de papa." If your not familiar with this dish it's a comfort food that will take you back to your childhood. The decor and lighting create a great ambiance. Our waitress Jennifer G, was pleasant, friendly and very helpful. The owner came and visited and asked what we thought of the experience. There is a parking garage next door which makes it convenient, instead of driving around looking for a spot. we will definitely return. No food pictures, we were too busy chowing down.

Horrible. In every sense of the word. Arrived at 8:20 pm last night with a party of 11. Had a reservation. We were sat and nobody came by to get a drink order until 8:36. There were 4 bartenders working the bar area! As a former bartender/server, that is more than enough people to tend to that size of a bar. If they can't handle that, they shouldn't be there. Waiter began by saying "we're running out of water glasses, so only order water if you really want it. I cannot bring 11 waters because we don't have enough glasses." Excuse my language but W.T.F????? Drinks were brought back within 2-3 minutes. Nobody came back to take our order until 9:11. We ordered and the food came within 25 minutes, not bad for timing. The food was disgusting! Ordered a $16 Shrimp dish (achiote something or other) and the shrimp were burnt. No joke, burnt, not to mention the flavors were awful. Drinks are empty by this point. Our waiter is nowhere to be seen. He came back, told him shrimp burnt and disgusting, please get me a quesadilla (because you can't really mess up a quesadilla right?!). Got the quesadilla a while later. Still waiting on the beer I ordered when I ordered the quesadilla. Done eating, no beer. Waiter came back to pick up plates, mentioned beer and finally got it. Another person at our table had to go up to the bar to get 3 out of his 4 drinks. Another person ordered horchata refill (which waiter pointed out is not free) and didn't get it until we were all done eating. Then came the check. The waiter gave himself 20%!!! Icing on the effing cake. Then it all made sense, he didn't care that he was giving horrible service because he knew the 20% would be there. We were planning on leaving nothing for tip. As a former bartender/server (for 10 years!) it was so bad I was going to leave nothing for tip. I have NEVER done that. Anyway, at the bottom of the check, running together with the "fill this survey out" spiel, are 2 lines which show what a 15% tip and a 10% tip looks like in amount. We crossed off where he gave himself 20% and circled the 15% (thinking back I wish we would've done 10% argh, still angry about the entire experience). He also mentioned he couldn't split the check because "it would take too long" as though everything else hadnt? Bonus: both the nasty shrimp dish and the quesadilla were still on the check lol. Had to ask him to take the shrimp off plus there were 2 beers on there instead of the 1 that took years to get. After he took all of that off, we manually split up our check and paid. For our dinner reservation for 8:15, we didn't get out of there until 11:06!!! Because of how crappy and slow the service was. I understand being busy is cause for slow service, but this was beyond anything I have ever experienced as far as crappy/slow service goes. If you can't handle it, don't work there! Although I suppose it's difficult to give up knowing you will automatically make 20% tip regardless of the quality of service you give... People when you walk in on a Saturday night, and the place is nowhere near capacity, leave! It should've been our sign. Will never go back. Ever. And I hope if you took the time to read this, you do...

At first, we had a lovely experience. Our waiter was extremely friendly and responsive. When my friend said she couldn’t have any wheat, he recommended the fajita option with corn tortillas. That’s when it all went down hill. He didn’t record our order, so he must’ve put in her order for flour tortillas instead of corn. Now, my sweet, sincere, non confrontational friend is from North Dakota and she is not familiar with the two types of tortillas. She could tell you all about the differences between all the kinds of rice, but just not tortillas. Being new to her gluten free diet, she ate her meal happily and did not realize until the end that something was wrong until she started to get a massive stomach ache. We realized she had actually gotten flour instead of corn tortillas. When I brought this up to our waiter, he said (super confrontationally) “oh, I wish you would have told me this when I put in your order” when he had recommended the meal! He then refused to serve us. We then told a poor busser the events and he obligingly said he would call a manager over. The manager then condescended my friend for not knowing the difference, and asked what HE wanted from US. Feeling super awkward, we eventually haggled to getting her meal at half price (while she was fighting back tears because she was feeling super uncomfortable). Our supposed waiter then threw our tab down on the table and refused to acknowledge his mistake. It was incredibly uncomfortable and demeaning, all while my friend was having a significant uncomfortable reaction to her food. I’ve never had such a horrible wait service, and I would not recommend this place to anyone who has any sort of food allergy. They were rude, cocky, and made us feel horrible for the food that we had ordered. Do not recommend. The manager could have apologized, but he lost 4 customers who will now describe nothing but a bad experience at...

I called 2 weeks ahead for an original party of 27 people. Day of, we had some cancellations but still arrived with a party of 18. When we arrived, there was only a table prepared for 10 ppl, so we had to merge a broken table in an awkward T shape with half of our party excluded. There was maybe 2 other tables there, but the place was essentially empty until later in the evening. Some parties were able to order, and when we arrived, it took 30 minutes to get just our drinks and about another 25 for us to order our food. Our entire party had already ate and still had about 20 minutes in between before the main guest of our celebration was able to eat his meal. When I called to make the reservation, i spoke with Alex and told him about our large party and stressed that we would be on separate bills and he assured me that would be fine. Until the check came, and it was on one big check. I told the waitress, alex said we could do separate checks and was told the waitress didn't remember what anyone had ordered, and they would only aplit it 4 ways. They proceeded to take ages to split the checks between us and even when they came they werent accurate. To top it off, it was apparently Karaoke night? The music was so absurdly loud no one in our party could have a normal conversation. I wasnt aware this establishment even had a cabaret license so I will be checking into that as well. Over all, it was the worst experience, especially when trying to celebrate a loved one. The only good note i have is the food was good. As a party of 18, we all collectively agreed: service, atmosphere, basic restaurant etiquette, and attentiveness to guests...
