Place has a great theme and vibe and the food is okay, maybe a little overpriced but its the heart of the Lohi so I get it. The patio is cool too. I love the bodega theme. I think its super cool you can walk in to eat but also get candy or soda popular from our childhoods that was no longer easily accessed. If it wasnt for that it would be a 1 star. My main problem with this place was service. What else matters in the service industry than the quality of service and how you're treated?
So I just moved to the neighborhood and in love with the whole area. My first day I go straight to mizu and enjoy one of the best rolls in Denver. The service was fantastic. Hoping to replicate that the next day I go to dimestore. It was thee complete opposite experience. I get there. Guy behind the counter tells me to seat myself and somebody will be with me shortly. I assume its the bartender/waitress because shes the only person there staff wise. Place has about 10 people but everybody is on their devices and it appears everyone is finishing up their tables or paid up. I then choose the best table on the inside while facing outside. Its dirty as a group of 6 had just walked out. I sat there watching the waitress and 5 minutes passes. Shes talking with a customer. Not busy servicing tables just talking. Glasses are dirty at my table. I look over, still talking. I get on my device like everybody else. Another five minutes passes. By now its 10 minutes. I want to be fair. So it was actually ten minutes. This waitress saw me. She never came over once. Is this the post covid worker shortage we're living in now? Where customers are expected to pay 25% tip starting now and just get servers who don't care? at the ten minute mark I had finally had enough and walked outta there. Im not begging someone to give me basic level service so i can tip them 25-30%. I didnt even get to try their food. But let's assume even if it's good it's not worth what you get being there. Especially with a staff of 2 running the place. this can not be blamed on a worker shortage. This waitress was standing talking for 10 minutes while dirty tables sat and customers we're never greeted. I also have a feeling she was the manager based on her authority to do absolutely nothing. Its unlikely any employee would be so bold. Do yourself a favor. One of the best sushi restaurants in Denver is across the street. I've long reviewed them too. Go there and spend the extra money on their deliciousness. Dimestore is a shame to the Lohi neighborhood and likely wont make...
Read moreI hate to leave a bad review but I felt this was necessary. When I first walked in there was one other table in the restaurant. I asked if I could sit outside, she said sure. When I sat outside (at a 4 top) because I was trying to study and needed space, she told me to move to a smaller table as "other reservations were coming in." She didn't offer to help me move, and demanded I did. That was fine, I could do it myself, I am a server too- but I'm not at work, I am a guest in YOUR restaurant. By the time I left there was 1-1 top, a 2-top and a 3-top outside. Plenty of space for me to remain where I was seated.
I asked if I order inside, and she said my "server would be right with me." Just to come back outside 2 minutes later, and ask if I knew what I wanted. I said "I thought you weren't going to be my server?" She said the other server was busy training (there was one table in the restaurant still) Ok, so I ordered with her. She never asked if I wanted anything to drink, which I did but at this point it was a lost cause. I have never been here before, I don't know your sides- yes I know it says on the menu but I was looking for you to tell me also what was good and what you recommend. She couldn't even do that being very unaware and lacking interpersonal communication skills. However, her response was condescending as she lists the sides. The other server dropped my food off, and asked how everything was. She never came back to check on me, or refill my water. She did not receive a tip due to her poor attitude, poor customer service, and being an order taker and nothing more.
The food---I think it was decent. It's hard to find a good sandwich in Denver, and if it wasn't for the service I would come back. I didn't like the amount of sauce on the sandwich as it caused the bottom of the bread to be soggy. I liked the fried cheese and the unique flavors in the muffalata. The salt and vinegar chips were also really good. Never...
Read moreEveryone, LISTEN UP! YOU NEED TO GO HERE! I’m sure you’re thinking, “wow, that’s a lot. But I’m intrigued.” As you should be…let me explain.
Do you love a well-thought out, well-made, creative, but not crazy, delicious sandwich? Do you appreciate the art of making bread in a high altitude climate? If no to the last question, do you at least like bread? Do you also enjoy witty named cocktails that are as delicious as their sandwich counterparts? Well Dimestore Delibar is all of the above and more.
Let’s start with the cocktails, obviously. Very creative, very balanced, very delicious. Smoke On The Water - mezcal, tequila, citrus. Smoky and classic. So easy to drink I had to limit myself to one.
Food. Holy smokes, no joke. Always 👏 start 👏 with 👏 the bread 👏 and butter. Thank me later.
I had the Italian - a classic, but on the most amazing focaccia I’ve ever experienced. Also tried the meatloaf - whoa, and the Cuban, double whoa. I’m very much looking forward to trying the rest.
Important to mention the prices are more than fair, which seems to be less and less common nowadays.
Ambiance: I grew up in Denver, the Highlands to be exact. The one thing I’ve said we need more of is little bodega style restaurants where you can get delicious food, but also run in for some Tums or Advil on a Saturday morning after going too hard on hot wings and beer the night before. DSDB has that. In addition, the entire aesthetics is fun, not over the top, and comfy. Service is always top notch. I just want to live here.
THE ROOFTOP 🤯 bury me up there please.
Alas, I digress. If you’re intrigued even a little bit, I’d bet on my life you’ll enjoy it here. Hold me to it - you have my google review name. But mostly, show some love to the amazing staff and geniuses behind this idea and enjoy the best sandwich...
