Hy-Vee Market Grille — Restaurant in Des Moines

Slow and Wrong orders. We should've known there was going to be an issue when the table of 4 next to us had something wrong with 3 of their 4 orders. It took forever to get my first cup of coffee. We asked for a couple of minutes to review the menu and he gave us 10. The restaurant was not busy. I ordered juevos rancheros with eggs over medium and my husband ordered an omelet without onions. It took over 20 minutes for us to get our food. At this time, we'd been there for 40 minutes. During our wait, we had to ask for water and coffee refills. My husband's order was correct however the egg on the omelet was hard, perfectly round, and had sort of a peel to it. I suspect it was from the pan/tool they use to make it. My order had burnt hash browns, scrambled eggs, and was missing the sour cream. Several minutes later, our waiter finally came back and I told him my order was wrong. He apologized for it and blamed it on the kitchen. He said he'd talk to his manager. About 10 minutes later, I hear him talking to his manager. They took my order off of the bill because I said I wasn't going to wait 20+ minutes again. We go to the North Ankeny Hy-Vee all of the time for breakfast and never have these issues. We went here because our first pick, Mullets, had a 45 minute wait. We should've stayed there. We would've had way better service and our orders...

Unfortunately, the service was poor. The staff all meant well. But, it is important to actually take care of customers. First, our order came out for some people at our table in waves with at least 7+ minutes in between, leaving some of our party politely waiting while their food got cold. Meanwhile, multiple other orders came out of the kitchen for other tables. Our server/the kitchen got one person's order wrong, then let our whole party finish their meals before bringing out the replacement (15+ minutes). We actually had to ask the manager where the replacement food was which was then immediately brought out on a plate so hot that it was clear it had been sitting in the warmer for a long time. Then, even that order was also wrong. That order was just eaten- while everyone else ate dessert. We did not have another 15+ minutes to wait. The manager adjusted the bill, but this series of service issues just shouldn't have been allowed to happen in the first place. I wish the report was better. We know Hy Vee Market Grill can be better, but it was embarrasing to have introduced part of our group to the...

Gave this place a second try... first experience was mediocre at best... I must say the service was good in terms of friendly and attentive staff... but the food?... nearly inedible... I’m not sure who the cook is our what qualifications they need to have but I know I could cook a better tasting meal with better presentation after an entire bottle of whiskey than this person did on our food this evening... it was embarrassing... I was embarrassed for the server having to bring out food that looked like a 5 year old put it together... and tasted about the same... WILL NOT be going back here for the food any time soon... working on posting pictures... it’s seriously...
