TLDR; Well worth the drive. Cheese steaks are delicious, authentic and made to order and full of meat and toppings.
We love this place. Used to be a franchise of original steak and hoagies out of Twinsburg. I dare say the sandwiches are a few notches above now that they've appeared to have severed their agreement and rebranded. They have a few items and choices that the original steaks and hoagies does not offer For example, Provolone planks are a great treat if a tad expensive. 9.00? (Note: that never stops me from ordering them as they are a delicious take on breaded and fried cheese but just noting.) It's the add-ons that when you add them in that can take what should be a relatively inexpensive lunch and turn the tides to you questioning value. My last trip 2 large cheese steaks, 2 orders of provolone planks and an order of Cajun fries (6.00) ( which were incredibly salty not sure why as I've ordered them before so I was very disappointed this time) was 46 dollars without a drink or a tip. Without a drink.
Still I love them and we make the drive from South Euclid regularly. We would probably go more if the prices were a tad more reasonable or if they had a value meal that came with a drink. I know that increasingly going out to eat is being treated more like a treat rather than a convenience which is why prices are just plain higher. I miss the days when a good sandwich fries and drink could be had for under 10 bucks. Now you're paying much more for quality and cheese steak wizards definitely delivers .
Check them out next time you're in Mentor ..you won't be disappointed.
Update: 6.25. 23 Sadly, they don't sell provolone planks any more. It was one of the more unique menu items around. A different the on fried cheese. Hopefully, they will bring them back. Also looks like they are opening up one in Lyndhurst South euclid area on Mayfield Rd. which is minutes from where I live. Looks like I will be frequenting Cheesesteak Whizard even...
Read moreThis is, hands down, the best cheesesteak I've ever had. I've eaten these sandwiches all over the country, even in Philadelphia. Yes, I think this even beats the legendary Pat's / Geno's. This is the only cheesesteak I've found in Cleveland that offers Cheez Whiz, which is a Philly thing. Try it before you scoff - it's incredible. But yes, they have several other cheeses to pick from if you don't want Whiz. That being said, a traditional Philly cheesesteak is steak, Whiz, and onions. Here, they sell the "Whizard" which is their own signature take - it has onions, peppers, mushrooms, banana peppers, and cheese. It's incredible. But you can make your own combination.
The portions are huge. This is NOT like going to other sub shops in Lake County. Whizard LOADS these sandwiches up with tons of meat. And it's high quality, lean beef. You WILL BE FULL. Also, the sides are fantastic. They do shoestring fair-style fries, get them LOADED. They also have fried mashed potato bites. Just order them. These come with REAL homemade ranch - this isn't that Hidden Valley junk that everyone else gives you. It's all in the details, and Cheesesteak Whizard nails each one.
I could go on and on. This is not only the best cheesesteak in Lake County, but the best in Cleveland... and truly, the best I've EVER had. The staff is wonderful, too. Why are you still reading this...
Read moreMy wife and I made our first visit as we’d heard great things about their cheesesteak. As I usually do trying somewhere new, I asked for advice on what to get. The friendly girl at the counter said, let me get my manager he does a better job explaining this than me. There on the line, was a hard working manager who clearly looked like he was already completely busy and he quickly finished what he was doing to come answer our questions. Not to judge a book by its cover, but given how preoccupied he looked, I was awaiting a short and exhausted response to my question. Shockingly, we received the most enthusiastic and helpful explanation of their items, as well as a confident nudge in the right direction for us. Literally blew me away with how much of his time he spent with us and as his general passion for his business. We left with a couple of whizards, built to his recommended spec, some loaded mashed potato bites and the Mac and cheese bites. Simply put… WOW! I love visiting places that have a great product and great people to match. We will definitely...
