Tonight was the first time I tried Salut in Edina. I ordered the food for delivery and my wife, daughter and I were excited to dig in. I ate my order of calamari first and my daughter had a hamburger and fries which she quickly devoured. My wife ordered a salad and, unfortunately, there was an issue with her order. Rather than blast the restaurant online for the issue, I chose to call and speak to a manager. Caitlin took my call and I explained the issue which regrettably made my wife’s salad inedible. She expressed sincere regret for the mistake and apologized up and down. She offered to make it right and among other solutions, offered to send me a gift certificate for my troubles; I gratefully accepted. She took my name, address and phone number down and we ended the call. When I finished my Calamari (excellent btw) I started in on my salad and unfortunately, had another issue. I realized that with both salads having issues I could come across as high maintenance, and yet, being a manager myself, I felt I should at least call and alert Caitlin to what happened so she could prevent it happening to other customers. Caitlin was understandably embarrassed, and apologized profusely for the situation. She asked if I was in the area so she could attempt to make it right in person and apologize. I agreed to pop over as the restaurant was not far from my home. When I met her at Salut, she was genuine, sincere and everything a professional manager who is trying to make an unfortunate situation right should be. I was surprised when she also gave me a nice bottle of wine for my troubles, and I accepted graciously. What really stands out for me is Caitlin’s attention to detail. My phone number has a WA state prefix and the bottle of wine she gave to me was from the WA Columbia Valley region! It’s easy to take credit when things go right and it’s tough to take the hit when things out of your control go wrong, but it is exceptional when you can make a customer feel special and want to return to your establishment even when things do go wrong. So, well done Salut! You hired an exceptional...

I had the pleasure of visiting Salut Bar Américain for a first date, and it couldn't have been more perfect. From the moment we walked in, the warm, inviting atmosphere set the stage for a wonderful evening. The ambiance strikes a delightful balance between classic French bistro charm and modern sophistication—intimate lighting, stylish décor, and an unmistakable energy that makes you feel like you've stepped into a cozy Parisian café.
The service was impeccable. Our server was attentive without being intrusive, offering insightful recommendations and ensuring our glasses were never empty. The menu? Absolutely divine. We indulged in some of their signature dishes, each one a masterpiece of flavor and presentation. The steak frites were cooked to perfection, and the mussels transported us straight to the French coast with their rich, savory broth.
The wine selection was equally impressive, with plenty of options to complement every dish. And don't get me started on the desserts—crème brûlée with the perfect crack of caramelized sugar and a velvety interior that left us smiling long after the last bite.
Beyond the food and drinks, what stood out most was the overall vibe. It was elegant yet relaxed, refined yet approachable. The laughter of happy diners, the clink of wine glasses, and the subtle notes of French music in the background created an atmosphere of connection and warmth.
Salut Bar Américain gave us more than a delicious meal—it gave us a memorable experience. Whether you're planning a romantic evening, a celebration with friends, or simply craving exceptional French cuisine, this place delivers with style and grace. I’ll definitely be returning, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking for a truly special...
Read morePositives: We were able to get in last minute on a Friday night. Our waiter was kind and apologetic, despite the fact that it took nearly 30 min for our apps -- two cups of french onion soup and order of french fries to arrive. We chose not to make a big deal about it because the woman at the table next to us was being a complete jerk to the waitress handling that table -- lady, if you are reading this, you are lucky that your waitress didn't slap you.
Negatives: My wife and I were both pretty disappointed with the food overall. I thought the french onion soup was decent -- nothing to write home about, but I liked it. She thought it was sub-par. I've had Salut's fries a few times before -- always have been piping hot and yummy. They were mediocre and while the lady next to us was being a jerk about her fries (among other things) she had a point that the fries were primarily tiny little pieces -- like someone had broken each normal fry into 3 or 4 pieces. For our main course, we ended up ordering their grilled jumbo shrimp which came with green beans and we added a side of macaroni au gratin. This could be just me, but I was a little surprised to get only 4 shrimp (would have been happy with even just a couple more) and I kid you not -- 10 green beans leaning in a bowl for $26. The shrimp were delicious, which saved me from additional disappointment, but seriously, the portion of green beans was ridiculous. The macaroni au gratin ($10) was completely flavorless (a few pieces of bacon within did little to help) -- we put that in a doggie bag to take home for our 3 year old to enjoy.
Hate to say it but I don't think we will be back. So many other options in this area and we have had far better meals for far less than the ~$85 tab (one beer and one glass of...
