I want to preface this by saying I haven’t eaten at many Indian restaurants. My husband likes to cook curries and other Indian dishes at home, and I have grown accustomed to his recipes so I can’t comment on the authentic-ness of the items we tried.
So yummy! The four of us thoroughly enjoyed everything we had. We had several dietary restrictions at our table (vegan and gluten free) which can be challenging when eating out, however Sukoon had so many options for items that fit both dietary needs.
We started with the Aloo Tikki (potato croquettes) they were crisp and flavorful. The two dipping sauces they came with were also tasty. We wanted to try several items and decided to split the Aloo Gobhi, Tofu Palak, and the Veggie Biryani. The Aloo Gobhi was tasty and flavorful. We ordered it with medium spice and in my opinion it could have been spicier. You never know what to expect spice-wise and as it was our first time we decided to play it safe. I’m curious to try it with a bit more spice next time. Overall the flavor was good and we all enjoyed it. The Tofu Palak was sweet with the coconut sauce. I thought it was very tasty, and a nice contrast to the other two items we ordered. The Veggie Buryani was probably my favorite dish. A decent amount of spice without being overwhelming. I enjoyed the flavor a lot and the portion was large. We also had the naan bread which was fantastic! Warm, fluffy, and crispy. It was so good we ordered another basket!
We tried a few cocktails. The oak and acid was very good. I’m not usually much of a bourbon person, but I found this drink to be very well balanced. We also tried the strong and bitter which we thought resembled an Indian take on an Old Fashioned.
All in all we really enjoyed our time at Sukoon and will...
Read moreI was excited when I read that Sukoon had opened in the Englewood Downtown area. We have eaten here twice recently and both times the food was outstanding. The service was equally great, and I especially appreciated the recommendations from our waiter this week. He pointed me toward something new, which was not necessarily on my radar, Bharta Makhani. Wow, the myriad of flavors, textures, and sensations from this dish took my breath away. Not only did he introduce me to my new favorite dish, but also went into detail with us about heat/spice in Indian food and helped us choose the right level. (hint, even though I love spice, the hottest isn't always the best)
On a previous expedition I tried the Daal Tadka, which was equally delicious. The Gobi Manchurian was amazing and, honestly, could be doubled to make a satisfying meal as well.
Overall, we felt so welcome in this space, even doted on. Three different staff members circled the floor and made sure we had everything we needed without feeling overly cared for. The space is clean and modern, but still feels warm and natural, a rare combination. Also, for all of you locals, Sukoon is open on Mondays unlike the rest of Englewood! Looking forward to my next...
Read moreI’ve taken a bunch of my friends and also my family for dinners to Sukoon and our experiences both times were excellent. The staff was very knowledgeable and attentive and recommended some fantastic food off the carefully thought out menu which we all really enjoyed. The chef and the owner came personally to have a chat with us which we weren’t expecting but was a great gesture that we very much appreciated. We were told this was a family owned restaurant and we could definitely feel the love and attention they put in everything we ordered. The aesthetic of the restaurant is something I was particularly impressed by, one can tell the owners have put in a lot of hard work and effort into making this space. The choice of soothing music also didn’t disappoint. I would highly recommended this new local business to those wanting to taste a nice little twist in Indian food and enjoy great service and ambience. 10/10 on all services we received. Will definitely be visiting often and will recommend to close family and friends as well. I wish the Sukoon team all the best going forward and can’t wait to visit...
