One of the best actual restaurants in Farmington, which seems to have established itself as the exit with all the chain and fast food restaurants. Located in an old house, Pad Thai is extremely understated. The decor is minimally Thai-themed. Most pictures are of entrees that you can order, presumably. It's a quiet place, great for eating and conversation. The food is authentic. Portion sizes are filling, but not large like many other places and the prices are reasonable-to-more expensive than other Thai restaurants I've been to regionally. I never have to take home food. Used to have lunch menu with different prices, although I couldn't tell any difference in portion size, but I believe they've done away with that and have only full entrees now. I regularly order the spring rolls and Pad Thai. The spring rolls could use a side of jalapenos. Have also ordered their curries ( mild and delicious), dumplings (yum), and a few noodle dishes. Their garlic chili sauce is exceptional. You can order according to your preference of heat on a scale of 1-10, but even requesting "Thai hot" will get you a dish that would only rank about a 4 in Chicago. I always have to dose it in chili sauce! The staff is very nice and service is always quick and friendly and accurate. I'd say I eat here on average once to three times a month and given that it's pricier than most other options in town, that's high praise....
Read moreThis food was AWFUL!!!! I have no clue where the positive reviews are coming from except they must be from those who are not used to authentic or quality Asian cuisine. Apps first...word the menu right. Your egg rolls are spring rolls. Overcook however decent, but need more filling. Just call your fresh spring rolls "fresh rolls" like other places do. Easy. We tried to order the wings, they said you no longer make them. I asked if we could get any other chicken appetizer, you said no because you no longer make chicken satay either. Um, ok.... Entrees were shocking and appalling. Your home made "stri fry sauce" is watery and tasteless. I ordered the drunken noodles because of the rave reviews, and because I'm devastated that Shogun closed and I'm desperate for another place with rice noodles. This dish was supposed to have cooking wine in it, which I love, but it was obvious it was not used. I opted for no spiciness, and there was just no flavor. My dish was also supposed to have bell peppers, which is did not. Why??? BECAUSE THEY USE CANNED AND FROZEN VEGETABLES!!!! Tiny mushy canned carrots crowded my dish, as well as my boyfriends dish along with canned mushrooms and frozen broccoli. You are better off and more likely to get your fresh veggies at a 3 star Chinese buffet. That's my recommendation. More food for less money and better ingredients. These people here should be ashamed of...
Read moreTHE BEST Thai restaurant in terms of quality and flavor of food. I lived in St. Louis for 4 years and made sure to try just about every Thai restaurant I could find - most notably, The Pearl cafe, awarded several times by the Riverfront Times Best award. Who made the better pad thai? Farmington's own of course. Pearl Cafe's noodles, as well as a lot of other places, were so full of grease and oil they became brownish-orange, some carrots and bean sprouts were cooked/steamed/blanched while others were raw, and the meat was tough and almost seemed added on as an afterthought. Pad Thai Kitchen's noodles are clean and clear, bathed in whichever sauce or spices accompanies the dish. The flavors are so robust. The food just feels "clean" without all the grease and oil that many other places seem to use universally. Maybe Pad Thai Kitchen is doing it wrong, but they are getting it oh so right. Personal favorite dishes include yellow curry, cashew nut, and of course, Pad Thai (smothered in chili...
