First time visiting Fort Myers and we needed to get our pizza on! After cruising around for an hour, bouncing in-and-out of a few spots brim with yuppies and long waits, we stumbled upon Poppy’s. A bit apprehensive of its shopping center location, we walked in and were met with the exact vibe we were looking for: intimate with an array of 50s & 60s pop-culture decor, a rock-solid playlist coming through the speakers and a friendly staff.
Scored a couple pies, Margherita and pepperoni with green peppers, and they were just what the doctor ordered! Nothing fancy, but cooked just right with a thin crust that absorbed its flavorful sweet sauce and melted in your mouth. I didn’t want to stop eating, but I also didn’t want to make a scene by having a tow truck haul my bloated carcass out of there, so I abstained.
We were also greeted and checked-in on by who I assume was the owner. He seemed genuinely concerned with the quality of our experience and also seemed passionate about the business. Owner or manager, I always love giving people like that my business. As an assassin robot programmed to destroy humans on-site once stated, “I...
Read moreI was a loyal customer until today. We called for delivery and were told they weren't delivering today so we said what the hell let's go there and eat in. Sat down waited 15 minutes before the waitress came to get our drink order then another 10 before a different girl offered to bring our drinks but told us they were out of glass cups so we would get Styrofoam..ok fine. Well the couple that came in way after us were being served drinks in glass cups while we still sat there waiting. Worst service I've ever had at a restaurant. Walked out and said screw it.They made us feel insulted and we will never order from them again. They had a great thing but made so many changes and are trying to be something they are NOT. That's too bad because we really enjoyed the pizza. We ended up going to Hooters on Ft. Myers beach where we had exceptional service...
Read moreThis is the kind of post I like to write. We rolled into Ft Myers on Friday night and went to our favorite local brewery, Point Ybel, en route to Sanibel. We wanted pizza after a few beers so hit up Google and found this gem of a place. We got a large “Godfather” and it was one of the best pizzas I’ve had in ages. Strangely enough, I was NOT hooked at first bite, disliking them honey glaze at first, but by bite three it totally started to “work” on my palate, with the mild hungry taste cutting through all the fatty, saltiness of the more traditional pizza ingredients. If I ever find myself in the Fort Myers area again, I would certainly relish the chance to return to this place. Yes, prices are high by southern US standards but coming from Miami, it was actually a bargain for us! Great NY style crust. Good thing I’m returning to Sanibel in...
