Gussie's Restaurant OWA — Restaurant in Foley

Located at OWA, we chose this restaurant to satisfy the teens in our group who didn’t want a seafood only restaurant again this week. It was the perfect option to satisfy them and those of us who wanted seafood. We chose fried green tomatoes, mozzarella sticks and fried banana peppers for appetizers. If you’re narrowing it down to one, go with the mozzarella sticks. They’re amazing and unlike any we’ve ever had. In our party entrees included cheeseburger, grilled cheese, chicken wrap, grilled shrimp and grits, pork Mac n cheese, and bang bang shrimp tacos. Portions were large and the food was really good! Personally, I had the bang bang shrimp tacos and I can honestly say they were the best I’ve ever had! Service was somewhat slow, which was probably due to October being the “off season” here, so staff is limited. The slowness was completely offset by the kindness and cheerfulness of the waitress and chef....

I never leave reviews for places but this place in particular I had to leave a review we are locals to the area after going to owa to ride rides we decided to try this restaurant for lunch the food was absolutely delicious at a good price the best part of this whole experience was the staff my daughter was feeling tired and the owner of the restaurant took her over to get her ice cream out of his own money to cheer her up my other daughter was feeling nauseous from the rides and sadly puked at the table onto her food we had 3 people who worked at the restaurant make sure that she was comfortable and felt ok they even offered to make her more food free of charge. Needless to say if you want a restaurant to treat your family like there own family I would highly recommend this place to anyone this will be the only restaurant we eat at in OWA...

This is a new place so it seems they have a lot of room for improvement. They do have really nice staff and that is the best part of this restaurant. They have a really weird situation here where they have one bathroom in their space they reserve for staff while they want customers to hike down to the public restrooms that are a decent walk away. I tried one of their cocktails and didn't find it to my liking. I also had their cheeseburger with a side of mac & cheese. The cheeseburger was edible and alright but I've had way better burgers. The mac & cheese lacked any ooey gooey cheesy goodness and I just found it to be not worth eating. Overall I think they have a lot of potential here but they really need to work on doing a lot of things better.
