I never usually find it important to leave bad reviews. I found this experience warranted one though. I am from Phoenix and we are pretty serious about our Mexican food there. That being said I am in general not horribly picky. This "Mexican" food was a war crime. You can generally tell how good the food will be by the quality of the salsa. This rang too true at El Burrito. With the consistency of ketchup and a similar taste I found myself drinking glass after glass of coke to wash down the flavor (or lack thereof) Next I ordered a cheese crisp. I was curious about the description. "Two flower tortillas with cheese. Served with lettuce and tomatoes". Maybe it is an Arizona quirk but the "crisp" in cheese crisp is literal. We also the dish by it's characteristics. Usually an open faced pizza like item with cheese on top of a large and thin tortilla. What I received was a soggy mission tortilla filled with some sort of cheddar cheese. It was as if a child came home from school and knowing they couldn't use the oven decided to make a quick snack in the microwave. Next was my "Chile Relleno"... Im at a loss as to where I will start. A Chile Relleno is a roasted poblano peppers stuffed with cheese, dipped in a fluffy egg batter and fried until golden brown. The nice manager or waiter or whomever he was asked if if like it with "green chili" I said "why not" and was told it was a "good choice" What I found in front of my human eyes a mere 10 minutes later was A. Not green chili B. Not anything resembling a Chile Relleno C. Not a good choice in any stretch of the imagination It was simply put, a poorly made omelette smothered in some sort of tomato soup with chunks of beef. Beans we're chalky, barely warm, flavorless and didn't even have cheese. Which might have been a blessing seeing as they didn't have anything but Kraft cheddar in the kitchen from what I could tell. Rice was a homogeneous blob, equal parts dry and chewy. The chili con queso was just Velveeta cheese on some more of their chips. The wait staff was nice, I felt bad for them and the whole situation was just depressing. I have never had a worse meal in my life and I regularly eat from 3rd rate food trucks. I have had better meals from hospital cafeterias. I can only imagine the howling of the madmen who produce these concoctions daily as I'm sure it must be the sick joke to them. Anyone calling this good or authentic suffers delusions. They should be shown mercy and be put down like a rabid dog. How anyplace could stay open serving this swill for 62 years is the only indictment of this charming town. I wish I had eaten at any of the many other wonderful restaurants in the immediate area. This was my Vietnam and I will never fully recover. Where is the memorial to honor those who've experienced El Burrito?

I'd give it 0 stars if I could. Seriously, this place is AWFUL. We were waiting for music to start at New Belgium and they were closed to clear all the day crowd out before letting people in for the show. We walked toward old Town and decided to check out one of the oldest restaurants in Fort Collins. We knew we'd made a mistake as soon as the chips and "salsa" hit the table, but we'd already ordered drinks and an appetizer. The salsa tasted like canned tomato sauce with some Cayenne pepper added to it. We had already ordered the small pitcher of margaritas and the "Nachismos" or we'd have been out of there before the server came back to the table. It took somewhere near 20 minutes to get our margaritas. They were ok at best, but definitely not homemade. The Nachos took at least an additional 10-15 minutes and they were....disappointing to say the least. For $11.75 and around a half hour wait, we got a very small plate of chips with liquid cheese (I'm pretty sure it was actual cheese whiz), and a few plops of canned refried beans with a little lettuce, tomato, sour cream and guac. Everything on this plate was spooned on with no additional reheating, so why did it take so long? It may have had $3 worth of ingredients on it, so, why was it almost $12? At the end of the day, I believe this place serves the worst "mexican" food I've had outside of a high school cafeteria or shopping mall food court, and if I'd been in a less excited mood (we were still headed to New Belgium for a night of great music), I'd probably have made some pretty serious complaints to the owner.

Oh my goodness what a waste of money!!! We spent $30 on lunch and it was the worst $30 I have spent! The lunch was for 3 of us and 2 of the burritos were ordered with green chile sauce, which did not come with the meal. It was a to-go order, so when we got home and realized that there was no green chile, it was too late to go back and not worth the effort. Also, the "chicken burrito" was ONLY shredded chicken breast. No sauce, veggies, or cheese... just dry chicken. What a disappointment!!

Was my first time coming to this restaurant. The service was awesome I thought it could have been better in certain areas but all in all customer service and the wait staff they were on it. The food to be was a wee bit pricey., however, they're writing downtown old town area and you crossed the block and enter into that area and prices don't trip so it's understandable because of its location. I ordered Mexican chili cheese fries and the girl said they never made them before and I explained basically how you do it and they come to me in a small round Bowl, they should have been put on a platter with green chili poured over the top of it and then a bunch of shredded cheese that's the best way and it also looks appetizing when done that way. I had a soft corn shell taco, I would put the salsa on the side and the taco was excellent! Only thing is I didn't think to take photos of our food. I will next time but I would refer this place to anybody. Right now everything is pricey, where ever you go. I included in my meal my drink price, so 20 to $30 per person with drinks included. Now during these times I suggest for the people who don't have that kind of money to spend that much you know have several items on the menu for people who are living on a low budget. There is parking right out front and on the side of the building and there's a lot next to that they have a bar there still there's cocktails being served as well. And handicap accessibility available, yes. The staff that was working the afternoon I was there, they were short employees, but it didn't show, I enjoyed my meal and the pleasantries of the wait staff and considering the bartender was the cook for that day as well., he did awesome and I'd go there again. And yes to ...
